moving line rental from bt to tiscali

We currently have tiscali broadband and phone calls but still pay line rental to BT. If I change line rental to tiscali as well how do I get a refund from BT on unused quarter --- eg paid them the quarter rental 3 weeks ago and it's paid in advance, so am assuming they will have to refund us ?

.. They will, had the same situation a while back and BT credited the few ££ - the calls we made.

Tiscali voice is not bad at all, apart from the savings on line rental we can use 18185 for mobiles and the assortment of 0844 numbers to call abroad and like with BT we don't get charged extra.

The only thing I pay for now (which I didn't with BT) is for caller ID and the 1571 service. It cost an extra £2 a month which I think is fair considering you don't pay line rental.

The Broadband from Tiscali is a bit iffy sometime but in general it is fairly good and consistant.:T

Avoid allowing Tiscali control f your phone line, jeez their BB is bad enough.
  • However bad BT are, they can never be as bad a Tiscali. Over 3 months, I have followed their complaints procedure while they have ignored it. I am trying desperately to get a deadlock letter or better still - just to be free of them. I wish I had stayed with TalkTalk and I thought they were bad.
  • just becuase a few people have problems, it doesnt mean that will be the norm.

i too like OP had tiscali broadband, and when their call packages were introduced i took the anytime option for an extra £5 per month which also doubled my BB speed at the time

beginning of this year i transferred my line across to tiscali too, was paying £17.99 before, now its £20 + £0.49 for caller ID and £1.49 for anonymous call reject, and premium number barring was free!

so thats £21.98 a month with unlimited calls and 8MB broadband and no BT charges. and i have absolutely no problems.

only slight quirk is that it takes a few minutes for the broadband to properly connect after starting up my PC, considering i'm saving so much i can live with that!
  • i was with bt line was fine changed over to them and a noice come on the line the day i changed over and i asked them to sort it out and they said it was nothing they could do
i'm in the middle of changing over to sky and its gone
also with tiscali my speed was 128kb if i was lucky
now with sky its between 1mb and 6.5mb as its still sorting it self out

I have done the same as you.
Cahnged from BT line rental to Tiscali at the beginning of the year and have had no problems at all.
I'm saving approx 25 to 30 pounds a month for not having to pay BT Line rental.

    Happy days !

How many lines did you have?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Tiscali are ok until something goes wrong, then you have to deal with the customer services from hell. Do yourself a favour and stick with BT and just consider the line rental an insurance policy for decent service when you have a fault on your line.
