I have recently moved into a house with 5 people in total. our cooker and heating etc.. is gas and we all work during the day. Every room has an energy saving lightbulb.

Our electricty bill has come in at over £360 for 6 weeks. No-one at power gen seems to be able to tell us why.

Seems to be wide variations across the board,I spent 2hrs questioning my supplier Scottish power as to why my consumpion was high 5778 kw in 12 months they thought it was high ,cant seem to find any individual appliance at fault but hvent checked my chest freezer its full to the top but teenager does leave lights on most are energy savers,I do cook most days maybe cookers are high users, just dont know were to make the savings ,its a new build house well insulated with a efficient gas boiler ,Im under use there but dont have it on a lot.

Does anyone know if a dehumidifier uses much electric?
  • Hi,
I don't know whether or not you own a De-hudifier or whether it is your intention to buy one, but all electric appliances will tell you their consumption either on the appliance, on the box or in the user manual. We have a Delonghi, its quite big and its usage is 200 watts. It is thermostatically controlled so isn't on 24 hours a day. Its one of the best things we have ever purchased, it keeps the air nice and condensation is virtually eliminated even in the severest cold. Worth every penny. Regards - sally
  • ok..im on pre-pay for both my gas and electric(BG)
Im putting £15 plus on each meter per week..thats over £120 a month for my gas and electric..im on benefits aswell..its crippling me!
Live in a 3 bed semi,i have two young kids who dont sit on computer games all day or watch telly in there rooms ect,so average useage
both meters have been checked,no faults..im not repaying any debt
as for the announcment regarding the 17% price drop i loved the bit where they said that people on low income/benefits would also be helped out..im sorry but we pay so much more than those on quaterly meters ect, why?
To be put onto quaterly will cost me £95 for each meter, because my credit isnt great..not fair at all
Anyone else in the same position as me?
  • We are currently putting £35 - £40 a WEEK into our prepayment meter. Scottish Hydro Electric have checked our meter and are quite sure that the readings are correct!

    Is this a record?

By the way, we live in a two bedroom cottage and heat the property with coal and calor gas.
  • Does anyone know the average persons KWH useage per day?

I live on my own and use 5 KWH per day of elec (all year) and between 8 KWH (summer) and 16 KWH (winter) per day of gas.

Is that normal, high or low?

    Thanks

According to OFGEM 20,500kWh gas pa; 3,300kWh Electric pa. is the average.

Time for some arithmetic!!! but you are obviously way below average.
