Having made the mistake of having an email with my ISP,who i am now leaving (a novice mistake!) i have now created an account with Googlemail. Now, i was using Mailwasher before but, from what i've read Googlemail has an excellent built in spam filter. Therefore i am asking anyones advice on if i should still use Mailwasher(which is the free version) or put my faith in the Googlemail?

Googlemail has an excellent spam filter - just remember to check it occasionally in case it netted something that isn't spam :beer:0

Cheers folks.
Can you tell me if i configure my Outlook Express to Googlemail and press send/receive will i get what i want or will i have to put in some sort of spam filter or does it recognise spam addresses?
Daft question i know, it's just that Mailwasher was such a fantastic tool for getting rid of thoses viagra/penis enlargement mails (as much as i am tempted !!)0 -
You'll need to configure your Googlemail account to Download POP mail.
With regards to Mailwasher, if you only give your googlemail address to trusted sources then you should not need it.
Perhaps you could use your ISP address for any public forums etc and access that via webmail? It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

You should not need it at all with gmail, I'm yet to meet anyone who has a spam problem with it.0 -
The only spam problem I have is that they put stuff in the spam folder that isn't spam but it doesn't show up in Outlook.OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090

Assuming you mean that Googlemail is putting stuff in the spam folder, you simply need to go into the spam folder on the googlemail website, select the mail that shouldn't be there, and then select the "not spam" button. This will transfer it back to your inbox, at which time it will then be sent through to Outlook.
I'm guessing it has some sort of "learning" functionality, because I never seem to get the same type of mail being mistaken for spam twice.Smithmeister wrote: »Cheers folks.

Googlemail has a rather good step by step guide for setting up your pc-based e-mail programme to download mail (ie, OE), and you will only download those in the Googlemail "inbox", NOT those mails classed as spam. Which is why, occasionally, you will need to check the spam filter to see what it has caught!
Oh, and if you have any problems setting up your send/receive on your PC, googlemail also has a cool little gadget you can download, that will check all your settings and tell you what needs changing. DO remember to enable POP access on the Googlemail website as well tho!!0 -
As a default, I have all my email accounts filtering through Mailwasher - but so far I have not had anything filtered by it that comes from my Gmail account.
