I've got a date!

The Pink Experience starts Sunday 17 July at 2 pm, with surgery scheduled for Monday. Expect it to go quiet for at least a week afterwards, I'll see if my DH can be persuaded to post an update but don't hold your breath.
My preparations include a haircut, chiropody, underarm wax and a relax/sleep CD. Tried to eat sensibly, didn't walk as much as I should have done because it's just too darn hot! Blood pressure down to respectable levels on the lowest dose of medication, but I'm going to double it over the weekend (on GP and consultant's advice) because it zoomed up last time GP took it and it's likely to go through the roof the first time they take it in hospital.
Spending the last couple of days at work trying to desperately trying to figure out what my colleagues don't know, so I can tell them what they need to know, but since we none of us know what it is we don't know it's a bit of a lottery.
Things I haven't yet managed to do include cleaning the house and somehow I don't think that's going to happen. Probably need to give my DH a haircut, give the boys their instructions etc. They're all getting a teddy bear / soft toy to remind them of me while I'm away, DH has one with a recorded message inside, not very MS. Would like to write them all a letter telling them how much I love them but will probably get weepy if I do that so maybe better not ...
Friends from church have promised to bring meals round while I'm in hospital, so at least no-one will starve. Although I can't help feeling that if they did, it would be their own fault!

So glad you have got a date.
Please, please calm down though. Just reading your post made me exhausted, I dread to think what you are doing to your blood pressure.
Work will manage fine, people always do. Aside from protecting you from bugs when you get home, forget about cleaning the house. Find something relaxing to do instead and get one of the others to do the essentials. You are right, they won't starve so don't worry about that.
I wish you well with your operation and will keep my fingers crossed for you that there are no hiccups this time. In the nicest possible way, I hope we don't see you around here next week but look forward to hearing all about it and that all is well in due course.0 -
Best wishes Savvy_Sue.

I am so glad that you have finally been given a date.
We will all be thinking of you and please try not to worry about everybody else as it will send your blood pressure soaring.
If the weather stays this hot then your family will be fine with salads or sandwiches etc. In fact unless hospital food has improved radically you will be mugging them for a sandwich when they visit
Re work - get them to pretend that you are not there for a day or two (while you are there) and any problems will soon show themselves before you go."This site is addictive!"

:rotfl:It's OK, I didn't do all that in a single day! Have spread it out over the last couple of weeks. And have also had a massage at work which was VERY nice, and been for a few Aquamassages which are not quite as nice but still pretty good.Bossyboots wrote:Please, please calm down though. Oh I know they will cope without me, and I have a colleague I've been grooming for "When I go into hospital" ever since she started. But we are recruiting, and need more desks and computers, so it's working out what she needs to know to get new staff up and running, which is something she hasn't been involved in. Yet!Bossyboots wrote:Work will manage fine, people always do.

See above! One of my colleagues did ask for something which we'd normally send out this week to be delayed until Monday so she can include some papers with it. I assured her that would be no problem, we'd leave the envelopes ready for her to stuff and she knows where the stamps are!elona wrote:Re work - get them to pretend that you are not there for a day or two (while you are there) and any problems will soon show themselves before you go.

Courtesy of work I now have the following vital items ready to pack:
A pink cheerleader's pom-pom. This is to wave to get the nurse's attention if I can't speak.
A hairslide with pink fake flowers and a Hawaiin style necklace of pink flowers.
A packet of pink Angel Delight, a bottle of pink lemonade, pink marshmallows, pink sweets and pink wafer biscuits.
A pair of pink slipper socks, pink showergel and a pink body polishing sponge.
A pink boomerang!
A pack of pink streamers - I am not quite sure what these are for, maybe to see whether the ward is being cleaned or not? I think I was told to throw them around to show I was starting to feel better.
Pink kissy lips post-it notes.
And a gift set of pink bath things, with a fluffy pink handle.
There was also chocolate which isn't pink, it's dark and misshapen in the heat! But the boss did find me pink chocolate for my birthday!
Regrettably there is photographic evidence for some of this, which I fear will be used in my absence ...
