I see in Martins article on ISA transfers that he mentions that some providers do/did charge to transfer out.
does anyone know if any of the ISAs he recommends transferring INto, charge if you want to transfer OUT again in future? Particularly NatWest?

    thanks

The tax year has only just begun! Ok, come the end of March next year, what you suggest may be the best route for a very small number of people, but in general it's not. For example, this year, two of the best were Halifax and First Direct at 3% and 3.1%. (Although there were some higher rates at Barclays and Natwest these were variable, so are likely to drop in May/June-ish.) Both these good accounts offered transfers-in, so there would be no need to withdraw cash and pay it in.
I don't expect I am alone among over-50s in knowing well before the end of this tax year that my wife and I won't, between us, have £10,200 of _new_ cash to subscribe. Also, only 1 of the 5 best buys _now_ on MSE's Cash ISA page .../savings/best-cash-isa#instant (and not the best one) allows transfers in.

I cant think of any that charge to transfer money out - unless there is a penalty due to you finishing a fixed term early.
  • Hi, I'm a newbie on here and trying to find an answer to a question all evening about ISA's, really appreciate it if you can help!

I have £3600 in a easy ISA from Abbey for tax yr 2008/2009. I've already started putting money in it (£250) for this tax year but just realised how rubbish the rate is (0.10%) so would like to transfer it:

Can I transfer all of it including what I've put in this tax year already and still put the remainder of my allowance in the new account? Or can I only transfer the £3600 from last tax year and have to stick with my current easy ISA for this years contributions? If the latter is true then what if I put all my 2009/2010 allowance into my current easy ISA in one go - then could I transfer it all? Or would I lose interest?

    Thankyou! LL

Transfer the whole lot elsewhere, and then you can top up by the extra £3,350.
  • Thankyou, I'll get on to it today! L

    Hi all,

This has probably been answered before but I'll give it a shot anyway. I'm part way through transferring my Nationwide Cash ISA to a Natwest e-ISA. The e-ISA account is already open. Can I make subscriptions for this tax year into the e-ISA before the transfer is complete, or do I have to wait until after the transfer is complete?

You can pay in this years subscription any time you want as the account is now open.
