    OK sorry for misleading
  • Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if the halifax 4 year fixed ISA at 4.25% allows transfers in of old ISAs (without subscribing this year?)
I've gone and opened the online 2.8% isa with halifax with the plan to transfer old ISAs in but then I came accross the fixed one. Will that be a problem? Ive not started the transfer process and I've not actually subscribed any cash to any ISA this year. The account is open but empty.

    All advice appreciated!!

It says so in the 'Features' - http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/accounts/cash-isas/fixed-rate-isa/?pagetabs=1
If you have an ISA with another provider and want to take advantage of our ISA promise and interest rates, you can transfer your ISA to us now

No problem (apart from the potential for confusion), if you haven't completed the transfer form for the ISA Direct Reward.

If you are transferring multiple Cash ISAs from different providers, the funds are likely to be placed in an easy access ISA account anyway, until all of the transfers have been received, as the FRISA only permits a single opening deposit.

  • In case anyone is interested...
I popped into halifax and within 10mins they'd closed the isa i'd opened by mistake and opened a 4 yr fixed one for me and transferred all my previoius isas to it. Interest starts from that day rather than waiting for the money to arrive and all interest is paid into the account. There was some confusion regarding this last point but it was clarfied to me in the T&Cs.
    Hope that helps someone else

  • Hello, my fixed rate isa held with northern rock is due to mature on dec 15th. It is my 09/10 isa and I have already subscribed to santander's isa for this year.

I want to transfer my northern rock isa to the halifax 2.8% one but when I apply online it says as I have subscribed already to an isa this year I cannot open it. I would have thought because its a transfer it shouldn't be a problem?

Do I just need to pop into a branch and get a tranfer form instead??

    any help much appreciated.

    thanks

Yes just pop into the branch to do it. I think you can do it online but you have to say you havent subscribed this year which doesnt quite feel right even though it wont make any difference for a transfer. They're just not that well geared up online for transfer only.
If you catch them at the right time in-branch then they will do it for you then and there. Interests starts from the time you do the transfer rather than waiting for the money to come accross.

    Hope that helps

(ps worth having a look at their fixed rates if you're interested)

I'd second the above comment, much easier to carry out transfers in branch (if you have one nearby). In general my Halifax branch have been very helpful and efficient! ;)

I've encountered exactly the same problem with the Halifax. They're boderline useless. Actually, I take that back. They ARE useless. So useless in fact that I've decided to reinvest my Northern Rock fixed term with the NR at worse rates over a longer period of time.

I phoned Halifax a week ago to get a transfer form from them in an attempt to open the 4 year fixed at 4.25% which they told me I couldn't have, but I've still not got it. My local branch closed about 2 months ago, so please don't suggest "popping in". It's 25 miles to the nearest one.

The Halifax ISA looks my best option as I will be able to get the 3% rate. I know it accepts transfers-in, but do they also require that you subscribe for the current year - that is, pay in new money for the current year as well as the the transfered money ?

I know that some ISA providers have this in their terms which prevents you from opening an ISA to take transferred money only.
