I don't pretend to have any in depth knowledge of economics (I wouldn't be spending time on the DFW forum if I did  ) but it's interesting reading different points of view even if they rattle everyone.
As far as I can tell SquatNow actually seems to believe this stuff as reality. (S)he certainly gets quite upset when people disagree!0 -
Are SNs ideas on land-ownership from the Marxist school of philosophy ?0

Since my first tentative posts as a wet-behind-the-ears FTB, I've become very fond of you all, yes even crotchety 'ole SquatNow has a place in my virtual heart, but surely its time to lay this thread to rest?! Please?!0

I think it's a disgrace 'forcing' people to take jobs they don't want to do.........especially when most of the time they'll be worse off than when they were unemployed!
The government don't care about people's personal/financial situations.
All they care about is making the unemployed statistics look better.
If people dont want to work then fine, as long as they are supporting themselves. If they expect the government to support their leisurely lifestyle then its about time we had some reforms. Benefits are a safety net for those in need not a lifestyle choice.
As for being worse off working, with WTC for lower wages there is no excuse not to work. The government are correct in getting as many people in work as possible, too many people are able to work and support themselves/their own family but choose not to. It may not be your "dream" job but does it matter.
Its a shame the government didnt go one step further and limit the time length for JSA so that you have no choice but to accept any job. Maybe they will in line with the new IS reforms coming in.0 -

Agreed. At first I thought it was an interesting exercise in "end of the world is nigh" fiction. However, Squat Now went onto defend his views, concluding in saying that it was more likely than not that we would all end up bankcrupt and living out our final years in death camps.
By the way, this would only happen in the UK and nowhere else in the world(despite the increasingly interdependant nature of all the major world economies) and that the rest of the world would turn their backs on us and not prevent the government from euthanising the sick and old.
You can't argue against someone who believes their view is the ONLY correct view, no matter how well crafted your arguments are and no matter what daft idea he comes up with. SN could argue that aliens have taken over the goverment and are now moving towards the domination of planet earth, starting with the nationalisation of the Northern Rock bank. This is the truth because SN says it's the truth, if you are against him, then you are part of the system and are an alien. Shame on you, you alien scum!

AFAIK, you DO have to accept any job you are offered otherwise you lose your benefit.....

If the council is paying houseing benefit aren't they then paying themselves for renting a property?
I'd love a council house, my rent is very high and looking to increase in June, both my husband and I work (me only part time due to having 3 little ones). We manage our high rent at the moment with no extra help, cause everytime we apply they mess it up!
Some people (not everyone) don't work because they are better off NOT working. It would craze me having my hubbie home 24/7, I think divorce would be on the cards!Toughest form of moutain climbing is climbing out of a rutI WILL be debt free!I WILL be happy!red pen member 40 -

The council doesn't have any money. People that have wealth or an income have money and the Government forces them to give some of that money to the Government under threat of imprisonment.
For some insane reason, the council then pays a bunch of people to move that money from one account in their books to another.0 -

DD, very eloquent, whereas my resonses to SN always seem so.........overstated?In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0
