Maybe there is an underlyig issue with your b-i-l? He could have a drugs or psychological problem, perjaps he was abused as a child. You can't just label someone as lazy without even a thought about the possible larger problems behind their lethargic fascade.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Maybe he is. Not 100% sure, we have not spoken in years because he hit my wife and my mother in law He done some time in the stretch because of that and some driving violations as well (not sure what, drink driving maybe?) Abused as a child? No way. My mother in law is a lovely lady. She is somewhat vulnerable herself as she is a single mother. However my mother was a single parent as well and my brother and sister turn out ok. My brother is working for the air force and my sis is accountant.
The real reason that he behave like this is that he knows that he can get away with it.Si Deus pro nobis quis contra nos?0 -

That pretty much sums up our society these days.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
i live in a council flat and i'm on minum plus commison but some days its just minimum wage i want to college for 2 years to get the job i wanted which dosnt pay very well but i enjoy it i dont think it matters wether its minumum wage its better then being on the doll and its not hard to get work.
my boyfriend has stacked shelves and every thing just to make sure he could stay in work because the longer you are put of work the harder it is. i am very grateful for my council house( well dingy flat with black mold even been told not to lean on my walls and a few mouthy neighbors) and it really annoys me when i see people capable of work and they wont because the pays not much but council rent is so low on big estates , and tax credits system is very generous i really think there is no excuse. thats for capable people healthy and fit and that...0 -
Utter tosh. VAT is 17.5% for a start.
And what does the money collected from VAT get spent on?
Yes that's right.... land. In the form of civil servants pay, or in the cost of items purchased.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -

95% of the money spent in this country (or any other) is not spent on land. If that was true the trading advantage that a country like Australia or Brazil would have that had land that is massively cheaper than our own would destroy the UK economy very quickly and UK land would be very cheap.
It's rubbish, a complete non-argument unless you can find any evidence whatsoever to back it up. Which of course you can't because it's nonsense.0 -

G,
Of course you are correct. Unfortunately, SquatNow continues to present his unsubstantiated opinions as facts. It is too easy to get away with that on this forum. I have pointed this out in response to some of his previous posts, but to no avail. It would seem that he believes that if he shouts long and loud enough, everyone will believe him.
Pity we cannot take this to a forum which exercises more intellectual rigour, like straightdope.comIn case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
