As this is the alternate Poll .... for those who still have their card? Always good to find the couple (thus far) who've voted 'Egg cancelled (it) for me'
Just as well I added those options then ain't it? :D (The equivilant were omitted from the other poll, and a couple of people the poll didn't apply to still answered.)

  • I am an Egg customer and seem to have avoided the dredded message. Although I appriciate this is probably more by chance rather than merit!

Regularly spend more than £1,000 per month and pay in full.

I can see Egg are quoting section x.x which allows them to close, and section x.x which allows them to still charge and vary interst. I wondered whether perhaps this could be challenged under the Unfair Consumer Contracts Act 1999 (much like the bank charges).

Seems that Egg can do what they like, whilst the consumer has little or no choice once contracted (other than to shop elsewhere, if that's an option after Egg have "resevered" £XXX,xxx credit against your credit profile!). All very well saying that it won't effect customers credit profile, but this only applies once they have paid off the full balence AND Egg have notified the credit agencies (often significantly delayed in my experience).

Interest in any thoughts on how a class action as an unfair contract may fare?

It's OK, I think that's covered by "paying at least the minimum" :p

I've LARGER DEBTS on it but always pay at least the THE MIN. REPAYMENT

Paul, I need the option of always using the card and always keeping a positive balance. (thus no need for repayment)

You do repay - you just do it before you spend it instead of after; use:
I OFTEN use it and always/almost always REPAY IN FULL
(Though I do agree with you, there really should be an extra option for this, since people using Egg Money in this way are costing Egg even more than those who don't carry a positive balance.)

My OH only got his new Egg Money card today, so suspect (hoping!) we're not affected.

Pretty sure they only kept me on as I also have savings with them
  • Not only have I not had my card cancelled but I received an email today inviting me to take up a balance transfer offer of 1.9% for 7 months.
