    I voted but it's my husband that has the Egg card. He has a balance of £2000 on it, with a £12000 limit (why do they give such large limits?) We have a direct debit set up for the minimum amount, but when he gets his expenses in, we pay that to the card right away (often as much as £500), as he only uses it for his work (he works abroad and often has to pay for hotel rooms, meals, etc). The £2000 was on the card before he started using it solely for work, and we're trying to pay that off.
  • got my card two weeks ago. Only just started paying direct debit so I should not get a letter.

  • Should you vote in this poll if you have an Egg Money card? I've not managed to work out if they are affected or it's just Egg Visa...?

    Yes - they've been cancelling both.

  • Just a poll for those who felt left out in Martin's poll :)

    Haven't had a letter and finally, two minutes ago, took a deep breath and logged onto my Egg accounts. Phew - no cancellation message. Everything as normal.

    I may have another variable to suggest for the poll or next poll - as well as paying more than the minimum each month I also make a "credit card repayment protector" payment (it is about 1 per cent per month), and I guess that that insurance is for Egg's protection not mine.

    However, if the decision about which customers to dump was taken five months ago - well, last summer I was paying Egg a king's ransom in interest charges on two loans as well as my (maxed-out) card. Then I found a way of paying them off, in August, but that might have been after Citigroup's Big Decision.
    YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
    PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)
  • I got an Egg Visa card when they were first introduced because of the atractive Cashback they were giving at the time.Within a couple of months they had upped my limit to £10,000, without me asking. I guess I would spend around £1,500 a month and allways paid off the full amount by DD. I stopped using it at that level in 2002 because they dropped the Cashback to 0.02%. To keep the Credit limit there, I just had a monthly subscription of £7.99 go on the card and transferred my spending to a GM Card. Using that, I have saved well over £1000 on each of the four new Vauxhall cars I have bought from then until now.

    I finally cancelled the Egg card in November 2007, which took until the end of January 08 to be confirmed, simply because I wanted to get rid of all the unused Store and credit cards to clear them from my records and I had a strange feeling that the new owners of Egg, Citi were going to do something. I didn't know what that might have been, but the feeling was strong enough for me to get off my backside and do it!

    I still have a small Savings account with Egg, but come April, after the interest had been put on, I'll be cancelling that as well, in protest at the way customers are being treated by Citi
    Regards

    Ric

    I always wonder how people get such huge limits! No credit card issuer has ever allowed me more than £1,500, despite a flawless credit history including mortgage (at the time) and a clear promise of how I was going to repay the balance (waiting for a property sale to complete).

    Now I've had the hiccup on my credit history (which would have been prevented by a short-term credit increase), I can't even get accepted for a decent current account :rolleyes: .

    Every previous card we've had has always started with a much, much smaller limit, and it's gradually been increased by the cc company. We didn't ask for such a big limit, and I suppose we should ask them to reduce it. I'm a bit wary of doing this just now though, incase they cancel our card as well.

    I voted larger debts but pay the minimum because we have between £0 and £3k on it moved from other cards on their 0% to try and clear it. Then it'll become an emergency card again.

    I have an egg money card - since November 2007 (high interest, low limit though) - that I've never gone below £0 on. I use it for all purchases over £100 and petrol for the cashback.
