Victim of Cheque Fraud - Help Please!!
Comments
-
The cheque duly arrived a day later and I banked it within a few days.
Move forward to 18th January 2008, and to my surprise I receive a letter from my bank, with the cheque from the auction centre enclosed, stamped PAYMENT STOPPED. My bank's letter stated that the cheque had been returned unpaid.
Another approach might be to go back to the bank.
Have a look at this link to the APACS website (who deal with clearing banks and payment I think.)
From 30 November the rules on cheques clearing changed for the better.
"For the first time, after paying in a cheque, customers can be sure that at the end of six working days, the money has safely cleared and they are protected from any loss if that cheque should subsequently bounce"
If you read further down the link it evens refers to instances of people selling cars. Hence I would go back to the bank and ask why they bounced the cheque.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0
