    It is being registered as disabled that got you the discount, otherwise you would have been asked about savings.Over 60's have a heating allowance of £200 per household.
    So someone who might be eligible would be better orf adjusting the level of heating prior to claiming 'care' discount.

    Helped mum and dad phone up about this earlier. They don't qualify even though mum is disabled as their home is heated by gas only and they only spend 7% of their income on gas which is below the 10% threshold. I thought they counted both fuels together but guess it makes more sense to count the fuel that is mainly used to heat the house only.

    thanks ken68 yes I am disabled...didn't realise that would mean anything to them since they didn't want to know about my DLA as they cannot count that in with your income...far...my last gas bill which was for 6 months was £180 which I didn't think was that bad divide that by 2 it's £80 for 3 months which is about right for my gas bills...sorry they couldn't help you...:D

    thanks OP your a star! Hope I qualify I'm on income support but as this is first property I had I don't know my average spend yet.

    they went on what my DD is for the month £40 gas £70 electric at the moment as I wasn't paying enough so now owe £45 gas and £101 electric once I have paid off this smallish debt they will re access my DD's for me...:Dalthough I have been with them for 18months now so they can also look at my account's and see what my usage is...:D

    just an up-date to say I have received my confirmation letter this is how it goes....

    I can confirm that while you are on this tariff, you will enjoy a saving of up to 20% off our standard prices. When you get your first bill, (6 monthly bills so might be awhile yet) if you want us to talk you through it, then call us on 0800 622 838.
    We will regularly review your account, however, if your circumstances change in any way in the meantime, please let us know as you may be eligible for further offers.

    You can also take advantage of other free services such as:

    Advice on keeping warm
    Larger print, Braille and 'talking bills'
    Advice on speacial controls and adaptors that can help if you have difficulty using switches or plugs
    Password protection for peace of mind against callers
    Special attention if you rely on medical equipment operated by electricity
    Help if you find your electricity or gas meter hard to read.

    I have arranged to send you some energy efficient lightbulbs which could save you upto £7 each year. These should arrive within 6-8 weeks.
