Urgh! I feel sick.... my plan for growing fruit and veg in the garden are well and truly out the window! Got the OH to lift some slabs today as I was going to use the raised path they were on as my new raised beds. Under the slabs it was teeming with weevil larvae and ants......

Again I ran around the garden freaking  Even the hubby was grossed out by the sight of them. I now need to move my little plastic greenhouse and all my potted plants asap to my new allotment - only problem is the allotment has been unused for a few years and needs shedloads of work doing on it before I can even think about planting in the ground

Why does my new "hobby" have to be so complicated? And does this mean my 20 month old daughter can't play in the garden any more?

Provado vine weevil killer is not approved for use as a drench on edible crops, or on compost used for growing them.

I'm another vote in favour of nematodes, then nematodes, then nematodes.

Various breeders around now but we've always used Grubsure from Defenders. With our pots we used two treatments the first year then just the one in subsequent years. There is now a strain for low temperatures.

When applying the suspension solution we also drench the surrounding area to catch any little beggars hiding in paving cracks etc. Another tip is keep new plants in 'quarantine' until you can treat them.

Tried to save a plant yesterday by picking out over 30 vine weevil grubs from its pot before washing off its roots. Left them in a builders bucket while I took a break, half an hour later they'd all gone.. probably to a few baby robins :)

But picking them out of the compost was not a job I want to repeat too often.

Had to re-pot just about everything in my back yard this year as I've had these horrible things in them. Found quite a few grubs but only one adult so far.

I refuse to be beaten by them though!
