Nematodes are quite fussy about the temperatures they'll tolerate, so you'll need to check they can work outside. Personally, I'd throw caution to the winds and drown the ground with Bio Provado - the little sods killed an entire bed of bergenias in my garden. I'd be very careful with your pots of bulbs as well - put some greasebanding round the tops to deter them heading that way.

    I found this
    http://sundries.thompson-morgan.com/product/bww2114/1/?er=googleuk;term=vine+weevil

Sorry but the hyperlink feature doesn't seem to be working right. Anyway it says that it can be used on edible crops and is natural...but it is quite expensive, but cheaper than buying two new fruit trees.

These people are cheaper. Have ordered from them in the past and they are reliable http://www.greengardener.co.uk/weevil.htm

I was given some strawberry plants last year and basically left them in pots, in the garden to fend for themselves (although they were covered with netting over winter). I went to clear away the dead bits and re-pot what was still alive, when I noticed the roots were covered in vine weevil. I chucked them over the fence (the plants), ran around the garden freaking out, :eek:calmed down, went out and begged some new strawberry plants off the neighbour.:D

How do I make sure that these plants don't get vine weevil too?

Thanks in advance - one day i hope not to be a novice at this stuff !:A

I've just looked them up... lots of info here http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0600/vineweevil.asp

...the varvae look suspiciously like the little bugs that killed off my rhubarb crowns.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

I'm afraid all you can hope to do is start afresh. Get clean strawberry plants (you'd be best buying them from a reliable supplier), plant them into clean pots using fresh compost.

That's not a guarantee that beasties won't crawl up into the pots, if you have them around the garden, but it's as good as you'll get, given that neither of the two currently approved chemical controls can be used on edible crops.
