Can I leave wahing in machine overnight?

We finally have our washing machine, and I've done a wash with towels today. However it has been raining like mad this afternoon and has only just stopped! Can I leave the towels in the machine and put them out tomorrow, or will they go funny. I've only ever put things straight out from the machine to the line at home so haven't had to think about this before! I can't really dry them in the house as we only have a coal fire, not central heating, and it is a little damp so anything drying picks up a slightly damp smell.

    Hello there!

I do this all the time, i set my machine on delay to start washing around 3am as the electric is cheaper, I have never had a problem with it.

:rotfl:I'll do my best to remove it in the morning and put it on the line! I'm going out swimming at 8 and be back at 10, so hopefully weather will be good! It's forecast sunny tomorrow, haha, we will see!

I frequently leave wet (spun) loads in overnight if there isn't any room one washing line for them, or more likely if I forget... Always OK in the morning, in fact OK the following morning too, but I wouldn't recommend leaving it any longer! :p

It depends on the machine - when mine was still very new, it broke down and wouldn't let me in. It was half full of water and half full of my knickers... and I had a plane to catch!

A mate helped me drain the machine and get the door open 3 weeks later - I was ready to throw everything in it away - but the drum had actually been airtight, so the clothes were fresh as a daisy!

If your machine is airtight, you won't have a problem. It's when clothes are left damp with access to air (but not enough air to dry them) that they get musty (and unfortunately many older machines do let a bit of air in).

I do the very hot wash once in a while but am feeling guilty about the state of the dispenser drawer :o every time I put a wash on I have a moment of horror :) You might have just prompted me to do something about it....

I wash overnight too, but have inadvertently left a bit longer (ie DH has forgotten to take washing out!). Has always been ok so far, but I usually then put in basket until I can hang out.
