Fair point, I shouldn't generalise and I apologise to all those 4x4 drivers who are kind and considerate and obey the speed limits.

However I still have an issue that I don't know how to resolve. Because these cars and vans aren't actually blocking the drop kerb, most of the advice on this thread probably doesn;t apply to me. However because they park just either side of the kerb they are causing a serious obstruction.

    Anyone any suggestions?
  • Seen a good idea to stop most people repeatedly parking. On a damp night go out and collect a bucket load of snails and slugs and put them on the car. In the morning there's a load of slime trails which are a menace to have to clear off. Often works and also clears up your garden.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I would say the vast majority of problem parking happens during daytime hours, it's non residents who are using side roads for work, school drops & shopping.
So this won't be very helpful.

Or are you also one of these people who believes you own the "public" highway outside your house too?

As a 4x4 driver I find it really cheeky that you generalise all 4x4 drivers.

I DO NOT tear down residential roads EVER!

They are not tearing down your road because they drive a 4x4, they are tearing down your road because they are bad drivers. What style of car they have is imaterial.

You have a very short memory, just a day or so ago, you were bragging that you drove through your village, over speed humps at 30 mph in your 4 x 4.

That surely constitutes " tearing down residential roads ".

Oh and don't bother throwing the usual torrent of childish abuse at me, it is water off a duck's back to me.

Methinks MrsE has a rather large chip on hear shoulder.

All this nonsense about people who believes you own the "public" highway outside your house when people are simply stating that cars that do this are causing a serious obstruction.

Where did this come from? I suggested an amusing solution to the problem and suddenly I'm the villain. Methinks a "chill pill" is called for.:D

Yes I drive through the main B road through the village after dark WITHIN THE SPEED LIMIT.

I would never go down a residental street (the type children play out on) at 30 MPH, even though it is legal too.
I would never drive at 30 MPH through the main village B road during or for a while before or after school hours, nor would I during daylight hours as though children don't play on it, they may be going to & from the shops.

I am not ashamed to say I do on or near the speed limit after dark, through a deserted village:rotfl:

I can get 4 or 5 cars on my drive, so I don't have a problem parking.

I know I don't own the road outside my home & if someone wants to park there so long as they don't block my drive then its none of my business.

But there seems to be people who think they have control over the public highway, just because its outside their house.

As you are talking about an overnight "amusing solution" you are talking about fellow residents cars.
Are you one of these people who think you own the road outside your house too?

people who park like this obviously do so INTENTIONALLY and deliberately to irritate and annoy - my local council have got zero-tolerence policy, if your drive is obstructed you can take a photo of the obstructed vehicle accross your drive and call them if they can get there in time the parking enforcer will apply a ticket, else they get one in the post.

    an expensive lesson - learnt!
Most people do park their car intentionally, I can agree on that. However, claiming that they do it purely "TO ANNOY" seems rather odd to me.
    Happy chappy
