Lost ipod

I stayed in an hotel in Southern Ireland at the w'end. It was only at 9 pm last night, I realised I did not have my precious ipod with me. My partner had left it on the bed and we now guess our children (bouncing on the bed) must have made it slip out of sight - we guess under the bed clothes. We phoned the hotel last night and they said they would speak to the 'house management staff' this morning. We phoned back this morning and they said that the manager and another member of staff had checked the room thoroughly after my call and spoken to staff this morning but there is no sign of it. They even checked through the dirty laundry as the hotel was quite empty this w'end, but still no sign of it. It was a 30G Classic and I loved it mainly because it had so many personal downloads such as favourite much treasured music and photos that I hate the thought of someone else going through. Does anyone have any suggestions? The hotel was paid by credit card. The ipod was purchased by credit card last April. Is there any protection having used the credit card? Or my house contents insurance? It wouldn't replace the personal aspect of what I have lost.....however I do want another one.

Purchasing your holiday and ipod on credit card doesn't make any difference. possibly your house insurance may cover it, but depending on your excess it might not be worth it.

There has never been anything in the terms and conditions of any credit card that says "we will pay out for a replacement item if you a stupid enough to lose it".

If you want another one, you're going to have to stump up I'm afraid and put this one down to experience. I personally would never take anything of any value or importance with me...even more so when there are children about.

Your home insurance is probably your only recourse...check if it covers personal possessions outside the home and whether it covers loss as well as theft.

Doesn't help with the personal aspect though

Seems a bit of a dull outlook IMHO.

I take stuff with me and look after it.

Your iPod will be synced to your computer (iTunes) so you won't have lost any data.

I doubt whoever finds it will be interested in the contents and as soon as they connect it to a computer it will get erased.

Just get another the same on eBay.

Thanks for all replies. Yes it may have been an error of judgement leaving it on the bed-I had a lot on my mind at the time. However, assuming the staff in the hotel are honest (and no one has stayed in the room, I have been told) I supposed it would have been handed in at the reception by the cleaning staff....

It will only erase the contents if they opt to sync their iTunes library with the iPods contents.

I'm going on a flight to LA in June - 11 hours on a plane without an mp3? No digital camera to take photos? Aren't these gadgets designed to take with you?

Agree on the children front though - I hate the little b*****s and they ruin everything.
