You've only misunderstood .. to the degree I certainly wasn't asking for an explanation!:o

How nicely put! I do have a tendancy to be voluble.

I received the Certificate of Interest Paid in the post today. Would you believe it - address only shown, usual pertinent details, but no name on the thing anywhere!!

I'm actually starting to look forward to ripping into them.

  • Mikeyorks, certainly will post results. To send Recorded Delivery would have slipped my mind, so thanks for the reminder.

  • After ripping into them, especially as I noticed that the Certificate of Tax Paid was for the wrong tax year (!) I've talked them up to £90 compensation. I said I would confirm acceptance of this in writing and once the bank have their sticky little hands on the flthy lucre, I'm going to complain to the appropriate authority about the incorrect Certificate. Don't they have any checks in place??!
I think I have learned from this not to go to non-financial institutions for financial products.

    Thanks to all here.

Isnt the 90.00 offer in final settlement of your whole complaint. ( if so and you accept the 90.00 offer you will be unable to revisit the issue by complaining elsewhere. ;)
  • I think it's an important enough issue to be brought to attention. Complaint had already been lodged with the FSA, so I'll just do a follow up letter to them and leave it in their hands.

I requested the account be closed and the money repaid to me on 7th November, however, the money only reached my bank account on 19th November and they had deducted tax from the interest despite my filinf an R85 with them.

My question would be - why did it take 12 days to transfer the funds - the transfer should take a maximum of 5 working days unless stated otherwise - thus a maximum of 9 days. I would push for compensation on loss of interest and the variance in RBS Investment....unacceptable.....
  • notis 7, without doing the calculations, I think the compensation works out at about 6% of original investment. I can also reclaim the interest the incorrectly deducted (OK I know this money was mine anyway) which is another £90.
I am more concerned now about making them get their house in order. Unbelievable!

Alliance Leicester is the bank in question.

I recently requested a statement from the bank for the month of April 2007. The request was made over the phone on the 23 of January 2008.

I was willing to pay the statutory charge for this statement. And was also willing to pay by first class post for the statement to be sent out urgently. I was willing to go to their bank branch and get the statement in person.

I requested this bank statement, as I did not have the complete April month statement showing the salary deposited into my account by BACS. I needed this to submit it to Home Office for visa purpose as I had received a job offer and needed to submit the application for the change of visa. The deadline has now passed and I have lost this opportunity.

It was down to Alliance-Leicester's inability to send a simple bank statement in post. Every instance I called up I have been told it will be in the post tomorrow. I have been put on hold over telephone, disconnected without prior warnings, transferred to different departments without intimations, transferred to a bank branch who had no clue why I was being transferred.

All this has put me through trying times and I received a bank statement on the 2nd of February!

I approached the bank about making a complaint and the lady quite abruptly and with displeasure said she will send out a complaint form. She did send the complaint leaflet, which arrived promptly in 2 days. It takes 2 days to send this leaflet, but it takes in excess of 10 days to send me a simple bank statement.

They sent me a letter saying they will investigate this problem, the problem was due to clerical error and have paid me 25 £ as a gesture of goodwill. Who cares about this £ 25, what's important is the loss of opportunity to move on to a better position. I could have got the application on time to the home office, and hopefully all would have been ok. Alas.

What would you kind people here suggest I do?

The bank, in the letter said if I do not reply to them within 8 weeks, they will consider the case closed.

Retain statements and records for six years in future.

Ten days is not that long for providing the historical records.

I can't see the Home Office processing your visa that quickly anyway.
