I just got the biggest ever stamps bargain from Superdrug.
After seeing Martins email, I popped into SD to get 2 books of 12 1st Class.. with my 5% off.
Gets home. Opens one of the books to find a third book inside.
RESULT!

To be pedantic the combined saving to the April standard price will be 10.4%.MiserlyMartin wrote: »I make the 1st class increase to be 5.9%. Still with the superdrug reduction thats 10.9%. Worth doing.
The saving of buying normal price 2nd class is slightly higher 11.1%.
The biggest saving is their large letter stamps which combines to a 12.5% saving.0 -
I tried to buy some stamps from my local branch today and was told the 5% discount does not apply, nor does the validated 10% discount voucher given with a previous purchase. Has anyone else been refused?0

The offer closed yesterday!!
See MSE Jenny's original posting.
Still I might try tomorrow0 -
Still plenty of time to buy at substantial discounts from online dealers as detailed above. Just to clarify, any stamps issued since 1970 are still valid and any stamps that show 1st or 2nd rather than a value will effectively increase in value with the price rise. Fill your boots now!0

this is all very good, but with the recent closures of post offices don't you think the selling of cheap stamps should be stopped. post offices have a hard enough time anyway without large organisations taking away trade. tv licences went to supermarkets, british telecom penalise customers with a £4.50 fee to pay bills at the post office and now superdrug sell stamps cheaper than the face value!0

its the free market.
financially, if the post office/royal mail arent good enough companies, then competition from superdrug, tesco etc. will make them better. (or crush them)
the problem arises when the government steps in and protects a company which hasnt been financially clever e.g. northern rock.
post office/royal mail dont deserve my money if they cant keep up with larger organisations.
its cruel and awful, but its just the nature of greedy capitalism.0 -

With a licence from the Post Office small shopkeepers buy stamps from them at a discount of 5% and this is the small amount of profit corner shops etc make on stamp sales.
Superdrug are using this as a loss leader and they will still make a 5% profit on 2nd class stamp sales.
I knew I was being ripped off by my local shop when they charged me 40p for a 1st class stamp.
I wouldn't have bought it but I really needed it, they are so cheeky in that shop.
They told me that their suppliers charged them more than the post office!0 -
THE PRICE GOES UP, THE SERVICE GOES DOWN...
On 7th April:
1st class stamp goes from 34p to 36p, a rise of 5.9%
2nd class stamp goes from 24p to 27p, a rise of 12.5%
Other similarly unjustifiable price rises on LARGE stamps.
GRAB SOME NOW BEFORE THEY CLOSE YOUR POST OFFICE...:rolleyes:British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Still a bargain for what we get, and you don't need to go to a PO to buy stamps.0
