Superdrug 5% off stamps from 7 February

Comments

  • What is actually happening is that Superdrug is selling its stamps at cost price.

With a licence from the Post Office small shopkeepers buy stamps from them at a discount of 5% and this is the small amount of profit corner shops etc make on stamp sales.

Superdrug are using this as a loss leader and they will still make a 5% profit on 2nd class stamp sales.

i was always under the impression that stamps are as good as money because they have got the queens head on. Am i ill infomed? If they are as good as money then then thay can be purchased and then sold back to the post office for face value making instant cash. Just a thought and i'm sure you will tell me if i am wrong!!
Having worked for it, I can tell you that The Post Office will not buy back stamps over the counter.

Everytime I shop there lately they give me a till spit voucher to do a survey and get 10% off. This would make the stamps even cheaper if you could use it for buying stamps.

I just did the survery to get the validation code for 10% off. This is what it says in T&C's:

*10% off when you spend £10. Excludes certain products – mobile e-top up, mobile phones, stamps, gift cards, baby milk, prescriptions and pharmacy. Coupon must be redeemed within the next purchases. Superdrug reserves the right to withdraw this offer at any conjunction with any other offer, coupon or discount card.

But I suppose you can always try. ;)

    12.5% Tax Free

Once again the Royal Mail is increasing its charges by more than your government's preferred measure of inflation.

    Letters
Ist class up from 34 to 36p

    2nd class 24 to 27p
    That's a 12.5% increase

Stock up with stamps before the rate changes on Mon 7 April 08

I make the 1st class increase to be 5.9%. Still with the superdrug reduction thats 10.9%. Worth doing.
  • I'll be stocking up tomorrow morning :)

Maybe someone could let us all know if they have worked out how to also get the 9% discount online by using Quidco as well - that would be circa 20% discount on April prices!

Tip on Superdrug instore (not stamps related). Having completed 1 survey, I never completed another - but simply write any old random digits on the till spit - It's always worked! I use something like FP5LV for the record.

I send plenty of "large letters" first class as part of my business, with a weight that makes them 70p each, is it possbile to buy these stamp and say put 2 first class stamps (2x34p) on plus a 6p stamp to make the value up to 70p? Or can first class stamps only be used on normal letters and not used to make up the value on packages etc?
  • You can use 1st and 2nd class stamps to make up greater values, just use the current price and watch your maths. At work we buy hundreds of 1st and 2nd class stamps but we have a few sheets of 1p, 2p and 5p stamps for 'make-up' values.
  • you can use your nus card in superdrug. this will hopefully give you an extra 10% off the already discounted stamp prices.

you have to spend a tenner or more to get the student discount but i still found this saving helpful because i'm currently selling my life on ebay!
