ryanair - an apology.

Options
I wish to apologise to all mse'rs who are currently employed by ryanair for my previous posts which accuse ryanair staff of poor customer service skills.

having just spent an hour trawling www.ryan-be-fair.org it is clear that long hours(o/t unpaid), an aggressive and bullying management, working conditions that I thought were outlawed over a century ago and concerns over operational safety all regiment against any effort to apply optimum levels of service.
I am in no doubt that many ryanair employees wish to provide high levels of service but are hampered in their afforts by a demoralising work culture, the origins of which can be traced back to the office door of mr. o'leary.
once again, apologies for any offence caused.

to anyone else mildly interested: many complaints about ryanair have been posted on this site (mine included), mainly aimed at the co.s marketing strategies and service levels. Let's take a breather for a moment and consider what the staff seem to live with before they reach breaking-point and leave:
abusive and threatening m'ment teams,
enforced, unpaid o/t
uniform hire fees (£25 p.month)
car park fees.
short/late payments, which border on trickery.
to mention a few.

If this is how the co. treats its staff - and the evidence is there - then can we,as customers, really be surprised if the same poisonous culture trickles down to us?

before anyone wheels out the tired old ' they can always leave' non-point they should know there is principle at stake: should any of us aid and abet a co. that uses a business model which degrades its staff to this extreme?

for the record: I'm not a trade unionist. I'm a moneysaver, looking for the best deal but I draw the line when my £14.99 ticket has got 'gross exploitation' written all over it. if I've got the facts in front of me and still purchase I'm not much better than o'leary.

I have no association with ryanair, direct or otherwise.

bmibaby, easyjet, flybe, airberlin, aerarann(with deals) seem to offer suitable alternatives.for me it will be one of these in future.

conscience salved and rant over.

Not that I have any particular bias, but I met a Scandinavian girl who is now working as Etihad crew, though had worked previously for Ryanair.
I pressed her for some negative stories, but she had none. She said she had enjoyed working there. Maybe just a happy worker.

Also, I had the experience of Ryanair airport staff tearing up my baggage charge ticket and waivering the charge when they heard of my experience on an earlier flight.

So yes, whilst there may be a corporate culture, there are still some who retain their humanity. :)
  • certainly, and in the interests of balance I should have pointed out that there were at least 3 posts on the staff/gen. public site that left positive feedback. but only 3 from a total of about 50.
one poster indicated that work conditions had definitely detiorated since she started working for ryanair 5 yrs. ago. perhaps your girlfriend worked for them in better times.

Yes, we all work with some underpaid, overworked whingers. I do the same job as them but am happy. If I wasnt happy, Id move on. Theres plenty jobs if you look.
If you feel that way about exploitation, then just walk around naked ,dont visit the supermarket, drink in the pub or eat a burger. They all are exploited just as much, probably more.
    Hypocrite.

    underpaid, overworked 'whingers'.......
I'm a tad offended by your assumption that I wear clothes from china/india, shop at supermarkets, consume alcohol and eat at burgerking.
'hypocrite' is a bit strong, but on this occasion I'll ignore it.

when you say you 'do' the same job 'as them' can I assume you are employed by ryanair? as cabin crew?

I should have added in my OP that mse'rs who reply with the 'global economic argument' ( kids pushed down mines in china, make carpets in india, etc)
need not apply, unless they're happy to see similar conditions existent in the UK.

if you work for ryanair and are 'happy', then great. you're just the sort of employee ryanair wants.

maybe your line manager knows your mse username............. well, it wouldn't hurt, would it...

This thread has not yet answered the really important questions that it raises:

Is the gorgeous Scandinavian who now works for Etihad still single? And if so, how does one get to meet her?
  • heh heh , budgetflyer. I've just checked your post profile and you're a right little ryanair apologist, aren't you now.

so you DO work for them! or maybe you did. or looking to get re-employed by them!

I (perhaps naively) trust to the integrity of mse'rs when seeking advice.

go on. tell us all - you're not letting misplaced loyalties cloud your judgements. are you?. Oooh do tell us. go on. won't hurt.

Actually I dont work for them or any travel related company.
I meant I work alongside similar so called underpaid, overworked, hard done to whingers. They are not unique to Ryanair.EVERY industry has them. Ironically, very same people are normally the least helpful, most off sick, late, unreliable and unwilling to advance their skill level.
You could give them a 24 carat job and they would ruin it. Its their nature- Every one owes them and every one else is to blame, its ME ME ME attitude always.

There may well be better airlines to work for, but they can rightfully be choosey.
In the meantime, Ryanair offer entry into an industry that used to be quite elitest. Once in, its up to the individual, how they succeed. As the beautiful Scandinavian proved, fortune favours those who seek it, not those who wait for it to land on their lap
