ALL windows versions are the same package. There is no Vista specific installer. The general windows installer is Vista compatible.

  • That's odd because when you visit Openoffice.org they ask you to select which OS you're using... oh, yes... it's a choice between Windows and the others...
  • Ok, sorry to sound like a dunce (which I am) but the first question they ask is whether I want to to save or run the file. What's my answer here? The download seems to be from a US server.

I personally save it first in case the install fails for some reason. Saves having to look for it in the temp folders or redownloading it.

  • This is intensely frustrating. I've downloaded and installed it (the 'wizard' said so) and yet again there is no wordprocessor icon on my desktop or toolbar.

It's on the list of hard drive software programs but, interestingly, doesn't appear on the 'start up' list of programs.

Should I reboot the system to get things going? There's been no message to that effect whatsoever.

No, there is no need to reboot.

It is not on your start menu at all?

Please see the answer I have just posted in your other OpenOffice thread. Hopefully it's full instructions on how to downlaod and install it.

Robt is right though, it should be on your start menu.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
