Why do companies sell with 9's (ie, £699 instead of £700)

I must admit I do prefer to see everything rounded up but I wouldn't put myself in an early grave over it!
It depends on what is rounded up.If it's suit rounded up from £99.99 to £100 that's fair enough. But I wouldn't want everything I buy in the supermarket to be rounded up
As for M&S ( I think it was them) rounding up to the nearest pound. Are they doing it to make things easier for their customers. Or are they doing it so their customers think something priced at £8 has been reduced from £8.99 and not rounded up from £7.99.
In my experience, shops that do something to "make it easier for their customers" are actually doing it "to make it easier for them to get the money off their customers."0
