Why do companies sell with 9's (ie, £699 instead of £700)

If you look even more carefully, shops are now using the latest trick of using "7" at the end, especially on CD sales when they advertise it on the TV, eg, only £7.97 or £9.77
YEAH! if i remember rightly it was a tesco ad, funny thing is i've realised over past few months that there's more 07 cars on the road than any other new cars
by rounding off prices to the nearest £1 (£8.00) they make LESS profit because less people buy it (coz obviously its £8, if it was £7.00 the same amount of people will buy it if it was £7.99, the 99p isnt noticable) its proven to work and companies dont want you to think, they just want your cash (and as much as possible, even to fool you!)
yes of course its true to say "i know its £7.99 i round it off" but in the real world it makes no difference to the buyer!
you have to think to round it off, you simply do not do it
Rest in Peace, Emily. Say hi to Robbo for me xxx
WHY BUY PRODUCTS FROM COMPANYS THAT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ADVERTISING -IT'S YOUR MONEY THEY'RE WASTING!(PROOF OF OVERCARGING?):T FINALLY DEBT FREE! :T0 -

DSG use a 7 (p) on their end-of-line items (dunno if anyone else does).
Just to up the blood-pressure - what about the TV adverts where they say "now only six nine nine" instead of "now six hundred and ninety nine pounds"..?
I remember when most things were priced £x 19s 11d...0 -
dwarfer - you crack me up. I think you must be the only person who doesn't see something at £7.99 and think "oh, not bad for 8quid". It's not even about thinking, it's automatic.OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090

So you are saying that shops should charge unattractive prices, should not advertise and should not offer deals and bargains.
How do you propose the shop attracts customers then?
I'm genuinely curious as I'm doing a business degree that has included work on marketing. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Hey!
I'd love to watch Dwarfer trying to buy petrol or diesel :rotfl:
That must be so stressful!
A few years ago, Marks and Spencers decided to round up to the nearest pound to make it easy on their customers.
They made an extra million quid on their first weekend after the change!
I must admit I do prefer to see everything rounded up but I wouldn't put myself in an early grave over it!0 -
and of course there will be more 07 cars; 08 is only 5 weeks old!!!
Apart from the fact that 08 plated cars don't hit the roads till march
Maybe the OP will feel better then :rotfl:
Edit to add~ Whatever will OP do next year when 09 plates come out?:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
