i hope someone can help me as it is driving me mad, i keep getting emails asking me about my sex life and trying to sell me viagra or anything else on their site. its a pharmacy somewhere in america, every email has a different senders name and email address, i have emailed the senders to stop but its coming back as "invalid address". i have also emailed the pharmacy, first of all i was very polite, but got no response, then i was straight to the point and told them do not send me any more emails, but still no response, there is nowhere on the site to unsubscribe, i have reported them as spam and phishing (because i don't know the difference).
please if anyone could give me any advice i would be very grateful. i'm new to the computer so i'm not very techy
thanks in advance

Hiya

I don't think replying is any good as it sort of 'tells them' that the address is open and they send more

Spammers usually fake the sender's address, so no point in replying.
The best way to keep spam under control (IMO) is to have a separate email address that you only used for friends and those close to you, and that you make sure never appears on the internet or used to register for things.
Then just keep changing the other email address that you don't care about.0 -

Regret that even this does not work, your "Friends" will more often than not send an e-mail to other of their friends with a list of all the TO people in it, it only needs one of them to have a virus/malware and your e-mail is harvested.
You may not see this but if you look at the headers then you can see this.
Also if People forward e-mails you often see all the e-mail names that have seen it as well.
Unfortunately the e-mail programs automatically show in each e-mail the names of people you send it to if you just keep putting
to...name,
to...name,
and even carbon copy (cc), the only way to stop this list of people receiving the e-mail being shown is to make sure you BLIND CARBON COPY (BCC) thatway only no other names would be included.0 -
I have tried for years to get everyone to stop sending rubbish emails with my address in the 'to' box. I have emailed them all explaining about using the Bcc box which works with a couple of friends but then tails off. I really don't need to receive emails containing jokes on why its great to be a woman and not a man! Sheesh!0

Outlook express ect lets you create rules on your emails so that you can delete these emails from server so you will not recieve them.
Messsage-create a rule from message-select condition by ticking box-select action by ticking box.0 -

You'll be there all day trying to build rules for all the spelling variations they use.
At www.filehippo.com download Spamihilator for free. It integrates with Outlook express and removes all the spam.0 -

I know exactly what you and Geekgirl mean - it happens with my friends as well, but I seem to have been lucky in that respect.
I have quite good knowledge of where my email addresses leak from, as I have more than a dozen email addresses which each get used for specific things (yeah, I should get out more!).
All of the ones that have been compromised in the last couple of years have leaked out of Yahoo Groups, and similar mailing groups, because they are often set up to let anyone join and then start harvesting email addresses. They also often maintain an online archive that webcrawlers can access.0 -
I've found that Hotmails spam filter is pretty good, change your email address, people soon add the new address, it's not like moving house. There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

There's software out there that can help - mail loop software is free. It lets you see your emails prior to downloading them - you can see the title (header) and where from. You can delete any you don;t want prior to downloading in outlook express/outlook etc. There's also software you can buy that asks people to confirm their address but you may lose customers or contacts by using it.
Really the best advice is to have a throw away email address (maybe a free one) that you use to fill anything out online and a seperate you only give to family and friends.0 -

You think you need to get out more? Mine is currently more than 300 addresses on my domain. I give unique addresses to companies so I know exactly who passed my info on. I should really get out more. But it works I get pretty much no spam and without the need for any kind of spam filter."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
