Thanks CM and NOP. Churchie - please elaborate on how I get a layer of marzipan into the middle of uncooked cake  Or is it obvious and too early in the morning for me :o

    Penny. x

Place half the mixture in the prepared tin and level the surface
Take one-third of the marzipan and roll it out into a circle the size of the tin. Place it on top of the cake mixture. Spoon the remaining cake mixture over and smooth the surface.

There you go. Easy peasy. :D
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

That's a great idea. I have a pack of marzipan in the drawer and wondered what I could do with it. I am away at Easter and it will give DH a supply of snacks (for the time he isn't scrounging offMIL!)

editing.... and will also give me a chance to try out a fruit cake in my new oven

  • i'm giving up cheese i've decided. cheese and gambling.

will try and be a better person generally too, but i'm always doing that, tho admittedly with little success...
Trying to be good, not always succeeding. :A:beer:
  • Oooh Churchmouse I'm glad you corrected me! I don't know where I got 13 apostles from  :rotfl: :rotfl: I must've been thinking of a baker's dozen, whoops!

  • I am trying to be a bit more conscientious about who I 'give' my money to and my general impact on the world so I'll be recycling more, driving less and buying Fair Trade. I'll also be using the local market and smaller stores. It's going to take a lot of sacrifice to stay within budget away from Tesco (no more snacky stuff and meat only once a week) but that's the point of Lent to me - a little sacrifice on my part to make the world a bit nicer for others.

......personally, I've always had a lot of time for Judas, and really sympathise with him.......

........and I've always thought it was maybe just ME who felt that way! Thank you so much for that, Churchmouse.
  • Hi everyone!

I set myself the v hard challenge of giving up tea and choc for lent as I usually have 5/6 cups of tea a day (usually accompanied by choc/biccies!)
The first week or so went well and I only treated myself to 1 on Sundays but I have slipped and am now sitting here with a cuppa and some mini eggs! :o (I must try harder!)

How is everyone else doing with their personal challenges?

Well, I was going to give up chocolate - I love it but it gives me migraine - but today I met a friend and she gave me a Lion bar, which I ate. It was gorgeous and then I guiltily remembered my Lent giving up.....................

  • Mmmm well, pretty good so far. No chocolate or choccie biccies/cake, but I do like my cocoa (proper stuff, not hot chocolate) at bedtime. I don't think that counts :o .
I've come close to giving in but held out so far.
    How about everyone else?
