Ummm I can see your point & I wouldn't want to be in your shoes but then again you wouldn't see me on telly either!
Why keep your head down? You might see a few tarnished coppers left on the floor but you'll be missing alot of blue sky and sunshine.
If people recognise you it's because they've watched your programs. If they've watched them it's probably because they are interested and if they're interested you've probably helped them even if all you've done is prove that what they do with their finances is right (let alone the ones that really needed your help!)
So what's the problem?? You surely can't be ashamed of what you've done can you? (how many people pour their hearts out to each other on here? where would we be without this site?) So PLEASE hold your head up high! If someone says hello say hello back with a big smile. Just imagine you're walking down your road greeting your neighbours.
You don't have to be a superstar - just be you, Martin, top left of forum page, sometimes dresses up for bank hols etc. helps & advises, gently kicks up bottom, friend & adviser to all and totally money saving as I bet you don't pay for the provided transport:D
  • Well Martin if you see me you better get running cos i won't be saying hi, i be giving you a big sloppy kiss!
  • hello martin!

i can't see what harm you'd be doing if you acknowledged someone who's greeting you personally, you should be chuffed! you've earned your reputation by giving out heaps of really useful advice on a regular basis, so enjoy being that moneysaving expert fella! xx

  • As everyone else seems to say:
I'd say Hi back to those who recognise me,
Smiley nod to those who are looking covertly and/or whispering "That's him!",
Eyes front otherwise (You wouldn't want to fall into the Kilroy Silk syndrome, would you?) <grin>

    Hi folks,

Just to say - if people say hi - I always say hi back. It's the people who are muttering but you hear that make it difficult. :)

Give them all a wink and a smile, it will make their day! You could also high five those that actually say your name, be the warm welcoming person you portray on the telly and you wont go far wrong, they are after all your public!
    You live..You learn.:)
  • Don't do the pretending to be on the phone thing, it makes you look like an ignorant !!!!!! if you're found out lol.

Yeah, but take the time to say hi to people (if you have the time).

  • Why not just one nice big lovely smile (which you have) and one "Good Afternoon" (or whenever) for everybody in the queue as you leave the studio and leave it at that.

Out on the street just keep your head down.
  • what's wrong with wearing a shirt that says "applause" on the back?

    ;)
