Every time you take out a mobile phone contract a credit check is done and it is recorded as a search on your credit file. Having too many credit checks on your file is not a good idea. From what I have read on credit card forums one check a month seems OK but any more than that can lead to being refused applications for credit cards, loans, mortgages and possibly your next mobile phone contract.

I don't want to scare people, just thinking ahead to possible consequences of having too many contracts.

It would be interesting to find out how many contracts people have with which networks and who they got them through?
I have two contract phones with T-mobile on one account, The first one I have had for many years, used to be Personal call and is now called freetime max and the other is a relax 100 plan with reduced line rental through the CPW.

I'm with you Tammy - I have had about 450 in cb so far and am owed another 1500 - have stuck mostly to cpw (e2save /osps) for security reasons. Have made a couple of hundred selling handsets but have held on to some of the most valuable - have a couple of year old ones to sell now - they are still worth 70 or 80 quid cf the 200 they could have made new.
Not sure how the checks affect your credit rating - any idea if they are repeated if you use same retailler / new contract on existing network?
My main fear is that I don't use half the sims (since voda, orange and 3 started charing for simply-fone) and that I might leave them lying arround to get used by someone else.
It certainly is addictive, I had real trouble deciding not to get the v600i deal from osps
    I think....

Perhaps 14 is a bit over thye top for most people, but anyone who spends say £50 a
month should certainly look to get a second phone on a different tariff and thus
save money overall, even though the monthly standing charge may go up.

Well i must say, I feel very fortunate and I probably have a bit more money in my pocket??! (maybe not with all this selling business going on lol), but I got an O2 Sim card, 300 free text messages a month, free minutes WAP (cant rmbr how many now), and I only pay £10 a month, and if I dont feel like putting the monthly cash on, then I am free to do without but I still have use of the phone.... seems a lot cheaper for me, and I dont have the hassle or worry like the contract people have!

You get the best price for phones when they have 'just' come out so may be the best bet is the v600i on voda £30pm from osps - osps have the advantage that you can downgrade tariff after 6m to maximise profit (taking out a new contract at that point if you need more minutes - but bear in mind which contract you want to have your 'number' on)
    I think....
