Received a letter from the Inland Rev over the weekend - my tax code is changing - something to do with travel expenses overpaid. Hmmmmmmm. That's gonna cost me. can't believe they can do that with the cost of fuel etc. It's to do with the lump sum I think. Will wait and see. Not a happy bunny.

Oh dear - well no point in worrying too much until you know the full impact - it might turn out to be just a minor adjustment. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Just one quick thought - are you, like me, paid per mile of travel for using your own vehicle? If so, you shouldn't be paid for that with your salary - it should be a separate expenses payment as it doesn't, so far as I know, count as a benefit, and thus is not taxable. This might only apply if you are paid at the "agreed" rate though - currently 40p per mile for the first 4000 p.a. in a fairly average car.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I get a payment of around £70 pcm plus around 35p a mile. I think it's the lump sum which counts - they must add up my total mileage for the year and divide by the total of the 35p's plus the £70's. I think my mileage isn't high enough and must average out over 40p a mile.
I think it's gonna make a difference of about £20 a month. Why can't they just pay the right amount in the first place?2010 MFW Challenge No. 112 Mortgage paid in full 27/08/10 I was MF!!!

Ahh - got you. Yes, that's probably it. You could try the old "I can't afford for you to take that much - I'll pay back at £5 per month" thing - it's not your error after all, it's theirs - perhaps it's one of those situations where they have to accept a reasonable offer from you to rectify things? Might be worth a try.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Bit bored today.....will be glad to be back to work next week.
Money saving is easier when I'm at work, even though I drive! I have only done about 100 miles in 6 weeks! Really not using the car unless i have to. My problem is I'm definitely using more gas and electricity and Sainsbury's is only at the end of my road!

EDF are sending me 4 low energy lightbulbs....I'm going to follow SMF2's example and start analysing my consumption and see what I can reduce.
Not sure what else I can cut back on energy-wise - dishy only goes on once every two days anyway, and the WM three times a fortnight, no TD. Will put water (gas) to come on just once a day though. Also I put layers on before the heating is allowed on - determined not to use it until at least October at all!
