Have you been able to use the internet on this router before? it sounds like the connecion is either down or not configured.
Now this could be either your existing router is configured for USB connectivity with your existing pc and you use a dial up thing to connect.
or
somthing has gone wrong, have you done a reset or somthing?
in your browser address bar enter 192.168.0.1 and hit enter
depending on the router the results will vary so let us know which router you are useing.
ok - on netgear page
what do i need to do now?0 -

http://www.routerlogin.com/setup.cgi?next_file=wire_sel.htm&todo=cfg_init
WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)
Enter a password in "Network Key (8 ~ 63 characters)", the longer the better.
Click apply
if you are doing this bit wirelessly, your connection will drop, and you will either have to put the password and encryption type into the laptop, or use a wired connection if you need to get back into the router settingsEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
check that the connection page has the correct details in for your connection. username and password are all you usually need to check.
you can also use the lights on the router to check the status of the link, netgear use a light on the front with an i and a swoosh type thing under it if that is on and green it should be connected and ok. if it is flashing green data is transmiting if it is amber it is syncing or searching with the ADSL circuit if it is off means no connection.
If the light is green and the connection details are there then we can try a few more things.
click start and enter cmd in the search box
type ping www.yahoo.com and hit enter you should get 4 replys

Ok - I gave up last night as got so frustrated.
Little John - typed in the cmd thing for yahoo etc - came up not found.
Just looked at the netgear router and the "i" thing - or upside down question mark isnt flashing. should it be?
The green on switch is lit up and the little antennae thing - but that is it.
Is this the prob?0 -
