Can I keep AOL email address if I leave them?

My ISP is AOL :rotfl: and due to the recent migration to the CPW servers with deterioration in service I am seriously thinking of leaving them and going to another ISP.

If I do leave AOL will I still retain my AOL email address that I could then access via their free email site?

Has anybody actually done this and if so did you have to inform AOL that you wanted to keep your email address?
Regards

  • Hi erb, Yes you can keep the email addresses. We changed form AOL a year ago and simply transfered the email account from .com to the free .co.uk addresses but with the same log on details etc. They forward all emails received on the .com address to your new account. We still use ours and have had no problems, to be honest it works better than our new BT account. With reagrds to informing them... I think you just go to the AOL.CO.UK home page and log in as usual, but there may have been more to it - however it was very easy to set up or else I wouldn't have managed !!!

    Thanks jelly99.

Was this transfer automatic or did you do something to get it transferred?

  • Sorry to be vague :o ..but I'm pretty sure that I searched for an answer on the AOL pages and it told me what to do. Try just typing the question into AOL help and it should tell you how to do it. The user names for all our accounts were just there waiting for us though and even our password is the same one we've had since 1999! I still also have access to all our old saved emails , mailbox folders and everything else which is really useful! Hope this helps!
  • Hi again erb,
Having done a little research it seems from what people are saying (on page 2 !!) that you simply continue to go to the AOL home page and log in as usual. It may be that simple! I would however disagree with them that you can't access your old saved stuff as I definitely can.
