I really like the phone, and really want one. I dont particularly care if I take my current number with me, but I want a contract on the V3, but at the very best deal there possibly is.

Signal strength is excellent on all networks in my area, so who would you recommend??

It must only be a 12 month contract!

Oh, and if you have any ideas why I shouldnt get this phone, please let me know!

Here is a good deal for the V3 Black edition

  • It is a very nice phone, can't deny that, but I always thought it was lacking in technology - given it's cool looks. That shouldn't be a problem though as it's a very capable handset and can do a lot more than most of us would use it for - making calls, sending texts and in this case, showing off!

The deal above is probably best overall value for money as you get 200 anytime mins per month to any network and 50 texts for £30 per month and £200 cash back in 3 stages at months 4, 8 and 12 - cash back deals can be a bit of a pain. It's a fact that only about 33% of customers remember to claim their cash back! But I'm sure the people at this forum are in the smart minority so no worries there.

If you want a deal with more texts and less hassle then you might also like to consider the Vodafone Off Peak 1000 deal with 250 free texts per month for life. The V3 will cost you just £10 and line rental £16 per month. See http://www.mobiles4everyone.com/display.asp?hs=v3b&tariff=op1000ol - silver model also available.

All deals are 12 month contracts of course, not 18. I should also point out that it's not possible to port your number with either of these deals.

You might also take a look at the offer below, which looks pretty good to me:

I guess from the wording that you can choose either the silver or black versions, whichever you prefer.

These look like good deals, but could someone please explain to me exactly how the cashback works?

The same package is a lot more expensive on O2's website - how do they make any money at this reduced rate (forgive me for being stupid BTW!).

    Cheers

Should also note that DAP cashbacks are via 'credits to your airtime account' as opposed to cash.

Does anyone know why Dial-a-phone will not allow you to port across networks on these deals and is that why they are cheaper than comparable deals from OSPS etc.?
  • DAP are not always the cheapest. OSPS, e2save, Mobileshop, Phones 4U, Mobile Outlet, buymobilephones.net and many others often have better deals.

DAP do appear to offer exclusive tariffs though and are sometimes unbeatable on one particular tariff option. Historiically they've offered bespoke tariffs on Vodafone and O2 which have become mainstream a month or two later. I believe they process 50,000-70,000 applications per month.

DAP currently have a O2 200 tariff with free itemised billing (99p elsewhere) but without the double talk & text promo. I expect the handset subsidy for this tariff could be a little higher than other dealers who are offering the standard O2 200 tariff. They're also doing large volumes of orders on a relatively limited choice of handsets, which means they will be getting big discounts on SIM free handsets. As far as I know, all of Dialaphone's O2 handsets are supplied SIM free, which means they are free to source them from wherever they want and negotiate more discount.

If that's not enough to make them competitive, they have a limited number of tariff options they don't allow number porting - which means much less admin. Number porting to O2 or Vodafone can be awkward for the dealer. The port has to take place before the phone is connected to the network, which means delaying the order by around 7-10 days. If this rolls into the next month then the tariff could have changed, the sale would also roll into the following month's accounting period and the customer's handset probably won't have been reserved and so might be out of stock. As DAP could be despatching up to 1,000 phones per day I can understand why they opt not to allow number porting on these networks.

If you buy a phone from DAP on Orange, T-Mob or 3 then you should be able to port your number after you've received your handset. Just call your new network and give them your PAC code and old number.
