I've got a lovely kenwood multi-pro which just has a circular base and then the attachment you want to use sits on top - takes up a lot less room in my cupboard! I treated myself (when it came up on special offer of course) after my last very aged processor couldn't cope with the lemonade I was making an spilt half of it over the side.It just wasn't practical or big enough!
I always cream butter and sugar by hand as its easy enough but butter & flour into breadcumbs argghhh! straight in the processor and if you've a lot to do just do what I do and do it in batches and then throw it into mixing bowl. Very good for breadcrumbs and if I'm making stuffing I can throw fresh herbs in and it chops them at the same time. Slicing veg for tea I do by hand but if I'm making soups to freeze I use the processor.
You certainly don't need one for baking and before buying one I'ld recommend thinking about what you'ld actually use it for as there are alot of different types out there. Big selling point of mine was it's all dishwasher proof!!

I'm with MATH on this one. I have a big Kenwood mixer that's over 20 years old but also have a kenwood cheffette should I ever need that. I do have a stick blender which I use for making breadcrumbs etc and whisking small amounts of liquids. I've never had a FP - in fact no-one in my family has. We're all Kenwood Chef lovers but perhaps that's because mum and both grans had them and were/are ace cooks :) Don't think I'll bother with a FP unless I'm given/win one.

When I was doing large scale baking for open days I used a Kenwood chef, worth every penny if you are making large amounts of cakes etc,it was also excellent for mixing egg whites and cream, I also had a magimix food processor, but I have sold them both on ebay..... I use a Kenwood hand mixer from Argos or my fingers depending on what I am making, shredding carrots, doing breadcrumbs etc I do on a cheese grater, just watch your nails if you have long ones, its very good at cutting them short. I find using a food processor fiddly especially when you come to clean it and the blade is lethal........

  • I have a Kenwood Chef, a stick blender, a hand held electric mixer, and a food processor. The processor is great for making pastry and the rubbed in mix for scones and crumble as well as liquidising soup etc.
I would suggest to anyone who was hoping to be a Nigella/Delia to look for them all second hand, particulary localy so you could see them working in the owners home also a small FP is too small, bigger is more flexible

I agree with the majority opinion. Food processors are ok for chopping, shredding, blending etc, but for cakes a Kenwood Chef is wonderful! And for bread, too! Oh, how I miss mine! It is 26 years old, and the switch is broken but i don't have the heart to throw it out, there must be a way of mending it! My dh bought it for me before we were even ENGAGED! I think he was trying to make sure he got fed!
ps if anyone knows about mending Kenwood Chefs....?????????

incidentally, if you're stuck without an electrical implement to help you and you don't want to grate your fingers, you can made bread crumbs by "rubbing" torn up bread inside a polybag (like a freezer bag). don't try to do too much at once, and it takes a while but it really does work!
Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...

    Chipps:

If the switch is physically broken, or just plain don't work - first you can see if you can take the mixer apart to get to it. After all - if you get stuck because it's too difficult you haven't lost anything...

..it should be fairly straight forward though.

Now, if you reckon you can change it - get in touch with Kenwood quoting your model number to see if they still makes parts for it.

I don't know their website address but their customer service number I got on this new one of mine is 023 9239 2333

Or for a cheaper but slower option write to:-

I had a kenwood chef for 20 years then when it broke I had a food processor. I soon gave that to my daughter and have gone back to a kenwood chef. Its brilliant and came with a liquidiser. I also bought the mincer/sausage stuffer and have made my first sausages. I make bread and pastry with my chef as well as cakes etc. I believe that there is a processor attachment and I would buy that if my children were still home.
