Vodaphone 18mth contract

Just after abit of advice please
Bpth myself and hubby have both got 18mth vodaphone contract (due to renew in July) but our lovely sweet daughter has grabbed them and now both are broke due to water damage!
We cancelled our phone insurance after 6mths.
We phone vodaphone to ask if we could just renew with another contract so we could get new phones but they said we'd have to pay the remainder of the old contract which worked out at over £200 each!
We're both using old phones at the mo. I'm wanting to go on a PAYG but hubby will go on contract as uses it for his business
Any ideas?
