Finished contract but don't want to start a new one?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I've done a search and can't find anything exactly the same as my situation -

* My 12 month contract with Orange has finished
* I don't need a new handset, will keep my K800i
* I don't want to start a new contract as I might be leaving the country in a few months

Should I ask them to swap me over to PAYG, or do you think they might be able to change me to a discounted tarriff without starting a new contract?

Anyone been in this situation?
BTW my contract was Dolphin 35 (£35 a month).

Thanks

    Hi

If you speak with help desk they should be able to reduce your tarriff without changing the contract dates.
If however you are open to a contract renewal speak to disconnections and they will tell you of any packages they can offered to get you to start a new contract.
They can also send a pay as you go sim if this is more appropriate for you but the one thing I would say is if you take this option make sure you register your new sim card straight away to you current number otherwise your contract will still keep running.
You also mention that you maybe leaving the country for a few months. You can get a temporary disconnection but make sure that you have no debt on the account when you go away as you could come back to a shock of Debt Collectors! You do need to reconnect when you return as they will add the contract charges in one go.

hope some of this may help

Mirrorsaw, has your contract finished or is it just the 12 month initial period that has finished? I think that you can just let the contract run on month by month until you leave the country. Just give them 30 days notice before you go.
Maybe this isn't what you want, but might be worth checking out with Orange.

    thanks for the replies -
The 12 month contract period is over, the contract is currently still rolling along month-by-month and I know I could just continue but this plan has always been more than I need, I don't use up half the minutes or txts so would like to downgrade but I thought I might get a discount for being loyal or something.

actually, looking at the Orange website - I guess it's probably easiest just to ask them to put me on one of the SIM Only deals :)

Definately, SIM only sounds like the perfect solution for you.
