Communications Direct Ltd. -WARNING-
I got suckered in by these people into agreeing a 18th month contract. I have no idea how they got my number but they claimed they were calling no behalf of three(3g) as they could see my current contract was coming to an end. I thought yeah it is and i want a new phone so i went for it, gave all my bank details and such over the phone (really stupid i know) but it was very early in the morning (9:30am!!!!) and i wasnt fully awake.
Got home from work and started thinking that was a bit dodgey how did they know my t-mobile contract was due for renewal. So called them today to say i wanted to cancel the order i had with them. They said it had not been processed yet and that would be no problem, and to expect a call from the cancellation team. I then called my bank straight away to check if a DD had been set up on the account which it hadnt, and low and behold they had charged £12.99 admin fee!! I hadnt even recieved the handset or anything so i phoned them back and got them to remove the charge. Told my bank if they tried to set up a DD to contact me and cancel it which they said was fine. Thankfully i have a good relationship with my bank and they were very supportive, gave me loads of advice and numbers for TPS and consumer direct. I called consumer direct and complained about this company, the bloke i spoke to was great, gave me all the required legilsation to quote in written form to them with a letter of cancellation just to legally cover my back in case they tried to pull a fast one a few months down the line.
Got a call from one of their customer cancellation team few minutes ago asking the reason i was cancelling i just said i had thought it over and decided i wasnt willing to be contracted for 18 months so he tried to offer me a 12 month contract instead to which i replied i really just dont want to pay monthly any more (lies) and he said fine and said the order had been cancelled and not to worry about it (thats rich).
sorry for the essay but i thought i should vent my anger, more at myself than them for being so naiive and stupid to sign up for this with a complete stranger. But if you have been silly and done the same as me just do what i did get it sorted STRAIGHT AWAY. Dont think it will go away if you cancel the DD or whatever because your are entitled to cancel within 14 days of the service commencing, after that period you are legally bound to the contract SO PLEASE CANCEL ASAP and make sure you send a letter notifying them you wish to cancel with recorded delivery so they cant sting you in the future!!!

it's annoying when you get these unsolicited calls, but it's very simple, never ever respond to cold callers
how do you know that this person wasn't a random person, collating bank details?
i always get phone calls saying that they're from t-mobile or orange or etc. and all i say is "no thanks" and hang up
tps doesn't seem to work at all, i still get calls, the gits!!0 -
for future reference for people

so the £12.99 was unlawfully charged?
-update- I have reported this company to consumer direct and the man said he was going to send a official complain on their behalf to Cardiff trading standards. I assume what thye are doing must be illegal???0 -
It worries me given the complaints on this forum that in 2010 this company is still trading. Have they been allowed to access personal data held by the mobile phone providers?
If so that is surely a breach of data protection legislation?
A tip to check whether these caller types have your details is not to give out your details but to ask them what they have already so that you can 'confirm' it.
I had a similar call towards the end of my previous contract - said they were calling on behalf of o2 and knew my name and contract end date. I said i'd forgotten what contract I was on and could they have a look and see to compare what were are offering ... the caller hadn't a clue about my contract, they work on speculation but do know your current provider and end contract date.
How is this possible without some kind of collusion?0
