What mattress to buy?

I've had back problems for years and insomnia. Spent a fortune over the years on Sealys (etc), then by chance I had to spend a few weeks on a humble IKEA Sultan whatso (sorry can't remember the sweeeedish name!) and have never slept better or had less back pain, so went out and bought one. They are a lot softer than the posturepedic ones and mold more to your shape. You can give it a try in store first. Only other advice: go for what you find really comfy, not for what's supposedly good for you.0

I think what you have found out is what we are now telling people. For many years people were allways told to get a firm mattress for a bad back. This does still apply to open coil sprung mattresses as soft open coil sprung mattresses can sag in the middle making your spine curve.
With pocket sprung or memory foam mattresses they contour to your body giving you support where it is needed, thus keeping your spine straight.
So this means that you can go for whatever firmness you like best as long as you have a pocket sprung or a good quality memory foam mattress.
It seems like you have found the right firmness for you in the Ikea mattress, however I personally wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.0 -

We are still working on it. So far we have come up with the 'CITRONELLA' shown at the top of this page: http://www.ambersinternational.co.uk/html/bedroom_2.html
Apparently it is available in king size.0 -

Hmm, thats a good find, I've certainly not seen that one, its not quite the same tho....
Problem is, I'm a designer. Its all about the aesthetic. Once I've got the image in my head of what I like, I just can't get beyond that....0 -
We've had a Calypso for just over a month now, and we're really happy with it, it's a really lovely firm mattress and I get a really good nights sleep from it, the only thing i'd say is that I probably get a tiny bit sweatier in this bed than i did before but it's my first bed with any kind of memory foam in it.
Hope that helps!0
