What mattress to buy?

I am in desperate need of a new bed. Can't decide on a good old fashioned divan with drawers or a bedstead and mattress. I am sick of trawling round shops and have even exhausted myself looking on the net!! I saw an advert for a 'sealy posturepedic memory foam' bed and wondered if anyone out there knows if sealy are any good.

Also saw an advert on e-bay for what looks a lovely comfy bed (Eros) or (Calypso) but have never heard of the manufacturer (Appollo).

I would like a pocket sprung with memory foam (ASAP) as my back is giving me so much jip!!!

All suggestions or comments very much welcomed
Cheers,
Jo

We have a Sealy bed - fantastic and made in the UK, but not cheap!

I advise you not to buy a bed off the net - always go somewhere where you can lay on it.

i would advise laying on the bed and then getting a price for the same item off the net.
some retailers will price match. haggle.

Hi, we have done a recent trawl of the shops and went for a Slumberland pocket sprung with memory foam from mattressman (go through quidco - 7%).
After extensive research, we found the best ones in our price range (£300) were Rest Assured and Slumberland (Sealy good but pricey).

We went for the Slumberland as it has a 5 year guarantee and the RA was 12 months. It has a 1200 spring count.

I personally prefer a bedstead as I dislike valances and think bedsteads look more modern, but that's just personal taste. I also think a room can look bigger with a bedstead as there is more exposed floor.

I've only had one divan and it wasn't very durable tbh.

A quick point on the bedsteads vs divan argument... I have a bedstead in my main bedroom but in my very narrow second bedroom I could only have a divan as the bedsteads that I liked were all a few inches (or centimetres if you prefer) wider than the mattress. Divans are definitely worth considering if the room is small and/or the additional storage is important.

My main mattress is a Kaymed, absolutely gorgeous if a bit expensive.

I was wary too. But there are no catches and you pay nothing upfront. You simply open an account and access the retailers via the Quidco website. Each retailer offers different incentives. The £5 annual fee comes off your earnings. Once Quidco have been paid, they transfer the earnings to you.
I hadn't signed up when I used matressman so lost out there.:o

beadstead or divan ? personally i prefer the look of the beadstead, but it depends on the storage needs you have. bedsteads look nice if they are free of underbed clutter - if you need underbed storage go for a divan with with drawers as everything will be hidden away.

Cough, cough.....Sealy are good, but not quite rated as highly as they used to be. Myers and Millbrook are good, but as for the other I'm saying nothing :rotfl:

I'm going to leave any comments about Apollo Beds up to others, as many of you know that I sell them. The only thing I will say is that I refuse to sell rubbish.
