Athlon runs slightly hotter than the AMD64's mentioned earlier. 57C is getting high, you really need to make sure it doesn't exceed 60C. Might be worth looking at the air flow in your case, or getting a better cpu cooler.

Mine has blown the plug fuse 3 times now, all during hot weather and it has been running ery slow.

Would it be the machine getting too hot, or could there be another explanation.

Plug fuse below power consumption of power supply.

My computer is slightly warmer at 42C, although I'm sweating my cobs off.

My Athlon 2000 normally runs at 50C but is presently 57C. Is this too hot? It seems more than the others above but I've not noticed any problems.

Depends on the version of Athlon XP2000+

The early ones were the Palomino core which ran hot and 50-60C is quite common (official max temperature is 80C ish). I believe that the Palomino XP2100+ had the highest power consumption of any of the Socket A processors

If it's a Thoroughbred then it should be lower.

CPU-Z will tell you which version you have.

My pc kept shutting itself down, yesterday morning I took the cover off and it's been fine since. I know it's not a permanent solution but it'll have to do til I can buy a new cooler  :D

My laptop goes splat when it's v.hot. I have raised it up to allow better air circulation underneath around the two fans, but that postpones the sudden death problem rather than cures it. It can't cope if I run more than a couple of applications at a time, Word and virus scanning being the worst culprits. OK I don't run an awful lot else... It's cool here today and my laptop has been working great so far.
  • The fan cools the processor with cool air; with all your pc components running your case soon heats up.
The fan inside your computer is blowing hot air over your processor, so it doesn’t cool down.

Take the sides off and see the temperature drop? The hot air wont be building inside your case anymore.
Your pc will run better if its keeps cool, if it stays too hot? It will just shut down to prevent damage to the Cpu.

You can also buy a fan that connects to the USB port for your laptops.
The fan is really powerful and will keep your laptops a lot cooler and will run better.
You can use the fan to keep you cool as well, there not a lot of money and you can keep cool all summer with them.

My tower is the coolest as it is a lovely sleek silver design..........

Oh, not that type of cool ? ;)

I have no idea then how to tell the temp, but I have left my blackout blind down for days in the room where the comp is to keep the room temp down.
