i also recommed getting the dog gate as they are taller and if it will keep my horrible rottweiler at bay and in its place im sure it will cope with a 2 year old toddler. i have the lindam gate in pboae`s link, it`s the best £30 i ever spent!proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

Ok thanks for all the tips, this is his 2nd stairgate he has managed to open, what i think happens was that he pushed it open but with a bit of force which put him off balance and basically flew down the stairs not just a tumble, he will be due home today so i need to work out what i am going to do.
The gate across the bedroom is a good idea, as he would prob work out how to open another gate and i really dont want to see him hurt again, we had the lindam one that fixed to the wall but worked that one out when he saw his brothers do it.
My worry about the bedroom gate is if he got out and there was no gate at the stairs that he would fall again, what are people opinions on it and how safe?

we gated the bedroom door only because the way our stair was we couldn't put a stair gate at the top. its maybe a thought because even if he couldn't open it at his age he might try climbing it and fall down stairs.
hope he gets better soon. kids! who'd have them
dont blame yourself.x x x0 -
I've got this one http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/bruhome/brusafety/brusafetygatespens/711225?ref=734306
and i put it across his bedroom rather than on the stairs, i also have a nightlight plugged in at the top of the stairs for 'just incase' he does ever manage to get out.
i really do hope you lo is on the mend, poor lil boy :grouphug:It only seems kinky the first time.. :A0 -
i have the lindham one as well, it is good it has 2 locks and i think you can screw into wall to make it more sturdy, my 1year old was at his nana's yesterday n she left him in the hallway 4 a min looked back and he was at top of stairs sat waiting for her!!0

Hi I really like my Lindam double lock safety gate. You not only have to pinch together the "lock" with one hand to flip open the latch but you also have to move round the plastic clip at the bottom that acts as a second lock. It's bloody fiddly and actually I have sellotaped open the second lock but if it's safety you're after then I think this would be ideal.
I'm ever so sorry to hear about your poor lo and really hope they're on the mend asap.
EDIT: They're £20 from Argos or Babies R Us last time I looked (this year for 2nd one).
I have this one - my 2 yr old can open it... i have a babydan too - he can open that. What about a non gate one? Makes it hard for adult - will have to clamber over it, but no chance of a lo's escaping. My 4 yr old cant get over a fence style one.......not oo sure if you can buy them easily - cant recall seeing any recently.
Hope you little boy recovers quickly.0 -
Thanks, lo got home today so went to argos to get the lindam one, put it on his bedroom door, have left the other gate up for just now, will see how it goes.
Thanks for all the help, much appreciated:beer:

hiya kyle, glad to hear little cutie is home again and i hope he is getting better now, the baby gate i had on the bedroom was great because it also meant that if i needed to go to bathroom it was a safe room to leave the girls because they couldnt roam the whole of the upstairs so i could go in peace and they never managed to open it the eldest has only mastered it during the last year if anything(she is five and half now so it lasted a while!!)it was just a very simple gate that you had to lift up and over (hope you understand me!) i was worried taking it off completely as the youngest is three and half now but they do tend to shout me first from bed if they want anything during the night so i felt the time was right and as the eldest one could open it it became pointless!!!!!!!!they enjoy wandering in in the morning at weekend it is a novelty for them i can hear them whispering and then they appear!! anyway good luck and as i say i recommend gate on bedroom as i'd be scared they may topple over the top of stairgate as they grow bigger and get climbing0

Hiya- haven't got time to read all of the answers, but needed to add my tuppence- if you can, do not have a stairgate at the top of the stairs- because if they do get them open suddenly, then they can fall down the stairs- also if they get past the stairgate at the bottom and reach the top then they can topple back when they reach the top.
It is normally recommended to put the stair gate on their bedroom door, that way if he gets it open he is not falling onto a stairway.
Hope this helps you.Hope he's feeling better now.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Junior shocked us both the other day by shooting up the full flight of stairs.
She is crawling at high speed and not far off walking so we knew this was coming, but previously she had shown little interest in the stairs, not really getting beyond the bottom step before changing her mind and heading off elsewhere to play. Now she can fly up the stairs in the blink of an eye and loves doing it so we need to get a stair gate.
Can anybody recommend a good one, or point me in the direction of some sort of review on gates? What we want is one that is held in place by pressure rather than having to drill into the walls?
Thanks in advance."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0
