Can't get my digital pics onto PC

I have just bought a Sanyo digital camera which Im happy with. However when I put the programme disc in it tells me there are no drivers installed for it. I have followed the instructions to the letter but cant get it to work. I have 'browsed' and checked all my drives (a,e,f etc) . The instruction book says if you do not get a removable icon then the driver has not been installed. If I try to reinstall it I keep getting the same message about there being no driver. What am I doing wrong. Not having a good weekend with my PC!

Have you tried downloading a driver for the camera from Sanyo web site? Assuming that they have a web site and or drivers. Usually XP picks up cameras quite easily without resorting to a driver disc, however there may be occasion when Xp doenst support the camera without an additional driver. As you gave no information about the camera other than manufacter there very little to go on.

Just had a quick look on the Sanyo support page. I don't know your model so I just chose any and noticed that in the user manual under Using the camera with a PC, it says...

"Be especially carefull when installing the drivers software. In some instances it may not be possible to correctly install the driver software." Very reassuring

I hope this is not one of those instances :(

Do you not have a support line number that could advise you further?

I have a Kodak and have never installed the camera software as my PC has a built in card reader and I find it much less hassle to download photos this way than connecting the camera to the PC. If your camera has a removable memory card it may be easier for you to buy a USB card reader, you can get them very cheaply, under a tenner.

*: A special driver (included) needs to be installed for Windows 98, while the standard OS driver needs to be installed for other operating systems

I think the OP uses Windows 98, according to other posts.

Argh looks like your using windows 98 judging from a previous post, trust me to jump to conclusions that its XP.

Well if its windows98 you will almost certainly require a driver disc.

Hi. Its a Sanyo Xacti VPC-S1. I do use Windows 98 and the disc/software pack that came wiith the camera has:
    UleadPhotoExplorer 7.0SE Platinum
    Ulead PhotoExplorder for Mac2.0
    Quick Time 5
    USB Driver
    Instruction Manual
It also does not work as described ie Add Programmes should come up but I have to go into the Control Panel etc to do this. I do not have problems with any of the PC Games I have installed. Have emailed Sanyo who have asked questions like have you tried another port (Yes) is it an external port or adaptor (External) and can you try the printer somewhere else which I can't

    Thanks.

I'd also recommend getting a card reader. Much easier, you don't need to use any new software, just open up your pics via the card reader drive on "my computer" and then put them wherever you want.

I'd also recomend a card reader but if you are win 98 you'll need a driver for that too ! but it should come with it!

Win98 and USB isn't always straightforward

I think USB is supported from 98SE onwards.
