If its not sold its obviously horrible or overpriced - sorry.
We looked at a hideous house today and I would rather live in a caravan.
Maybe there are better houses than yours in the area going for less. You need to change estate agents asap. What have they been doing for 30 months.0 -

Which would be exactly our intentions. In fact I do run a business which I could take anywhere in the world with me, so employment doesn't really become an issue for me (although ym partner would need to find a job, she works for the NHS so a transfer may even be possible).
I knew employment is hard to find in Cornwall, I just didn't didn't realise things were that bad. It almost makes me feel bad for even looking to buy down there as I am priced out up here and know how you must be feeling if you're looking to buy in Cornwall, and I am very much in favour of a major correction0 -
Different areas of Cornwall give different opportunities. I would not claim to be an expert on most of the areas but where we are there is a very definite growing base of self employed. Be aware if your self employment customer base is local then the prices you can charge will be lower and your suppliers may take a tad longer to get to you. Also look at teh competition when you arrive as people tend to forge family friendships (more like the good old days) and a lot of business is done through recommendation. For the NHS you will have to look to the particular job opportunities, which of course you know.
Where the main problem comes is that most paid jobs for small local business are minimum wage or just above. You need to be a bit more openminded to make that extra buck.
Personally, I am happier on a lower income, for the quality of life. However,to supplement my local self employment income I have a couple of contracts that take me out of the county three times a year (8 days in total) and are paid at what I consider 'London City' rates.
I also own a camper van and take holidays on our doorstep....saves a fortune!0 -

This highlights an interesting new debate. Mr Phirefly was telling me about once of his motoring cyber aquaintences (yes we are a sad pair) who bought the most outrageously huge pile in the highlands for a snip as theres no employment in the area so no locals could afford to buy. He's a composer and can sucessfully carry out all his business via broadband, so has no need for good transport links. The interesting thing is, is that recently, he has seen a big increase in similar folk buying nearby.
Mr P and I fully intend to be 100% self employed working from home (or ideally from our converted outbuilding) in the next 5 years and are feeling the pull of the south coast and I'm pretty sure we're not alone. I think this phenomenon may have quite an interesting effect on the housing market in these areas...0 -
