30 Months on the market

  • I sold my house (north coast) last year, but it was on the market for a year with 2 agents and a price drop. I was lucky. 2 houses over the road were for sale a year before me and are still for sale and only one of those is over-priced.

You have to either drop it to silly money (and still you'd get an offer under that), or wait it out .... unfortunately waiting it out might mean many many years.

I don't mean to be nasty but surely if a house has been "on sale"for over 2 years then it is either unwanted or overpriced , if over priced it needs to come down to a level that it will sell at and if unwanted it will have to be drastically reduced if they are to find a buyer. The prices in Cornwall have been falsely inflated by buyers from more afluent areas that moved in in the past ,now there is little incentive for them to buy holiday homes in Cornwall as prices are so artificialy high and the prices of homes will inevitably fall as there are more houses than buyers in that area. The only people who really want the houses are local people who cant afford the inflated prices.
  • Me and my partner have got Cornwall high on our list of places to live and have been keeping a close eye on the market.

My initial thoughts were how much cheaper you could buy a house in Cornwall than a comparable one to where we currently live (Small town in Gloucestershire).

Are wages really that bad? North Devon is my preferred location as it is a little closer to home, but my OH loves Cornwall. I do appreciate the seasonality whihc is why we have been working hard to get a large a deposit as possible.
Wages are extremely low in Cornwall and unemployment is higher than in most areas ,you will be lucky as an incomer to get a job.

Wages in Cornwall are low and the unemployment figures are higher than most areas of the UK.You will be lucky to get a good job as an incomer ,and may be only able to get seasonal work.If you want to live in Cornwall and need to work to buy a home then a job should be your first target not a house as there are places to rent.
  • Thats a really tough situation... sorry I dont know what to suggest - if its a space issue is there any chance of converting the loft?
:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j

have u tried a sealed bid open day , the agent gets just proceedable buyers to visit all in one day, at the end of the day sealed bids are placed on the table for you to select.
Have u been on the internet and seen the local street price of comparables this should give you a good idea of pricing but as others have said something must be wrong, what is it?

Value your job market before you look for a home, you'll soon realise.

I grew up in Devon and I've had to move away from the southwest to find a good income.

All those in favour of a new forum rule whereby you're not allowed to receive any advice on your house sale until you post a RM link for all us voyers to have a good nose at SAY AI....

    Ai. .
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.
