hi Angelina-M I also have an easiyo, but make my own in it. There is a thread on here somewhere all about making yog in an easiyo, I use 1 litre carton uht milk, 2 tablespoons of natural yoghurt and 4 tablespoons of milk powder and a smidge of sugar, mix it all up and put in easiyo thing, works fine, only time i had trouble was when it was really hot. Tastes like mueller corner yoghurts, really scrummy, keep peservering well worth it. perhaps someone will find the thread for you. best wishes

ooh Ive never heard of the easiyo. I am interested in making my own yogurt as my little boy loves it but I am reluctant to give me more than one day of the shop bought ones.
sorry to hijack the thread but how much it cost to buy a machine (or are they readily available second hand) and how much does it cost to make the yogurt.
or can someone point me in the direction of a thread that answers these questions. thanks.

Thanks for that. This is what i'm doing but its just not going thick. I've had maybe two success's. I dont know why mine isnt working and everyone else is doing well?

I dont want to waste this mix so i'm going to add more yoghurt powder and give it another go.... its costing me a fortune!

I make mine in an old thermos flask. Has turned out well whenever i have made it. So just cost the ingredients.
  • Yes I make minee in an old Thermos. Rinse out with boiling water put in yogourt mix (as given above). Leave in airing cupboard overnight. Enjoy

I normally use 2 tablespoons of milk powder (although next time i'm gonna try a bit more) which I shake up with a bit of UHT milk (I use semi - don't know if it makes a difference), stir in 1 tablespoon yogurt (I use yeo valley) as shaking does something to the yogurt - then fill to top with UHT. Put lid on and turn upside down a few times to mix gently.
Fill up easiyo maker with boiling water AS SOON AS kettle boils (very important!) to about 2mm above top of red marker and put lid straight on. Then leave overnight - mine normally sets very thickly if I do this and doesn't go sour like I thought it would leaving it so long (sometimes gets left for upto 12 hours). Didn't set as well leaving for 6/7 hours.
My kitchen is about 17/18C so if yours is warmer/cooler then it might work out slightly different.
I find if I add sugar then it doesn't set as thickly and the sweetened easiyo sachets don't set as thickly as the unsweetened ones.
    Hope some of this helps

I do this too but I use 2 tblsp natural yoghurt, 2 tblsp milk powder and 1 litre of milk, no sugar (I add afterwards if required), fill the water to the top of the baffle and leave overnight. Like Nik I only have a problem if the weather is hot.

What type of milk are you using? WHole milk will give a thicker yoghurt than skimmed... also how long are you leaving it? I find the longer I leave it.. the thicker it is. You could also try straining the liquid through a muslin - just for a short while to thicken the yoghurt.

Hmmm ok I think its the time I leave it to do its work. I leave it for six hours, never longer.

I'm doing exactly the same as everyone else except the timing. I thought it would be sour and horrid if I left it any longer. I shall try giving it an extra few hours and see if that is where i'm going wrong. I've even started warming the milk up first to see whether I can give it a head start.

    I use Lidl's skimmed UHT.

I've taken the easiyo I made last night and warmed it slightly. Then I've added nearly a full sachet of vanilla easiyo powder and three heaped TBSP's of milk powder, if it doesnt thicken up now then I give up!!

It definately wont harm me though heating it up twice like this will it

I have a yoghurt maker but its an electric one and had never heard of Easiyo so after a quick google I think it has to be the ambient temperature of your room.Yoghurt is thickened by the multiplication of the bacteria and the bacteria need warmth and food to multiply. If you are giving them the food supply then it has to be the warmth they are lacking in.I'd try situating your easiyo in a warmer place and see if it makes any difference.I know the cold weather affects my bread making even when I use the BM so I cant see why it shouldn't affect this too

I have had mixed results too with my Easy yo but I won it in a competition and that alone makes me stick with it:D Definitely the tip about keeping the water hot is very important. On one occasion I used the banana flavour packet and it didn't set at all. However, based on waste not want not it made a fabulous series of milkshakes for my small person!
