I've got an Easiyo and have only used it once. Didn't turn out great but think that was my fault. Couple of questions. Once the mix has been made up and left to develop, how long is it safe in the fridge before it goes off? And do I have to put in the full amount of sugar that it reccomends?
Once I have these soretd think I will start to use it a lot more.April £5 a day challenge- £15.05/£1500 -
Don't forget those who prefer to use live yohurt as a starter that LIDL's Probiotic yoghurts work very well and give you the bonus of a range of beneficial bacteria and save more money.
If you sort through the ones with fruit at the bottom they may have one with "natural" flavour yoghurt on the top but if not the vanilla flavour ones are fine.
If you regularly make yoghurt, as I do, then the chances of it not being quite perfect are much less. I kept a "Rachels Dairy" starter going for months before losing it when I went on holiday. For a litre of milk you only need 2 tablespoons of starter and I think being overgenerous with the starter is one of the reasons why people have trouble. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

The Probiotic Cultures last up to 3 days in the fridge. The yoghurt itself last a whole 7 days in the fridge quite well. You shouldn't really be putting sugar in your yoghurt, hurts the beneficial benefits of yoghurt and adds unnecessary calories. It's tastes delicious without, so you really should give that a go.
As far as I am aware, it is practically impossible to do the EasiYo yoghurt 'wrong'. All you need to do is add water to the tub, tip in the powder mix, lid the tub, give it a good shake and put in the flask. What can you do wrong? Seems a waste to buy such a great item and not use it. Try to have another go at it, I love mine and so will you if you get used to it. It is in my opinion a fool-proof way of making yoghurt that is the tastiest I have ever had!

The first and only time I used it the instructions said to put about 10 teaspoons of sugar in. I thought it was a bit odd and seeing as I can't stand sweet yougurt didn't put ant in. Wondered if this was the reason why it tasted vile (rather than my technique).April £5 a day challenge- £15.05/£1500

Which type of mix were you using? Some need sweetening and some don't. I got mine from shopping channel few months ago and wouldn't be without it. The strawberry one is lush, better and creamier than anything I ever had before. I especially like the drinking yoghurt mix you can get for the easiyo machine. https://www.yoghurtdirect.co.uk has all the mixes available individually, postage is £5 up to £30. If you spend over £50 you get 10% of the order and well. On the back of my packets it says the yoghurt last for 14 days once made and stored in the fridge.
Saving mum, am I right in understanding that you use some of your easiyo made up yoghurt to make your new batch?0 -

Yes that's correct just mix it up with room temp uht milk and continue as usual. It gives more of a natural store bought as opposed to the creaminess of the easiyo mix but works out much cheaper. I also use some starter from say a commercial live yougurt such s Rachel's or a stores own adn then uht. Either way works well.
I must say though that atm I am eating lidl's own low fat natural at 29p for 500ml that was on sale with a long bb date - their individual pots of 'creamy' yogurts were also down to 15p/pot and are yummy. My kids prefer store bought but I fool them by putting the easiyo into a washed out store bought comtainer!!!!0 -
Well, after much debate with my wallet, I did buy an Easiyo. I will give it a go overnight tonight, and see how I get on.
Many thanks for the ideas about UHT, and also other sources of starters, sounds as though you don't always need to buy the packets.

Hi,
Well the Easiyo certainly does what it says on the tin - the Greek Yogurt is lovely (my only failing was that I don't think I shook the mix up quite enough).
Then I have since used about a tablespoon of that mix to start 1 litre of UHT with half a cup of powdered milk added, and that worked well too. I reckon I can get one or two UHTs between the proper mixes without too much trouble (as others have suggested - thanks)
If I can do it, it must be foolproof!
Now if only Julian Grave's stock of Greek Yogurt mixes stayed on the shelf for more than 6 hours after delivery, I would be laughing.
Thanks for all the advice,
Regards,

Lidl's probiotic yohurt starter one of 4 @59p= 15p
1 litre skimmed uht milk 32p
2 tablespoons skimmed milk £1.79 /25= 6p
So my litre of yoghurt costs 53p plus the cost 5minutes in the microwave to raise the to yogging temperature and 4 hrs keeping warm in the yoghurt maker. Remember this is the cost of the initial batch only so the continuing cost is only that of the UHT milk plus skimmed milk 38p per litre.
I haven't tasted any yoghurt made from Easyyo but I very much doubt it can be better than mine. I did buy one Rachels dairy yoghurt after xmas but had to replace it after I came back from holiday. I can see no reason why this lidl's probiotic won't go on and on needing replacement only when I go away or do something silly.
While I'm sure you're right that your
yoghurt is good, I'm sure mine is just as good, possibly healthier and very much cheaper. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

I have an electric yoghurt maker I bought from Lakeland some years ago, I used to use a small tub of tesco natural yoghurt to start if off and it had strainers which gave a finished product very much like greek yoghurt, I have not used it in ages, does greek yoghurt act as a starter on its own???? my husband eats a yohurt everyday and I could do with making it myself instead of buying it.
I can no longer get a small tub of natural yoghurt from Tesco they only have the larger sizes.
I usually use a little honey to sweeten it with better for you than sugar.
