Hi, I recently got rejected by Virgin, the letter said comething about MBNA. Is it becasue my limit with MBNA is 3500 and I have like £1 outstanding only.
Is there any way I can appeal, or say I close the MBNA account will Virgin accept?

I had a similar problem. MBNA 'administer' alot of cards that do not carry the MBNA logo - look at the small print on any application to see if they are MBNA associates.
The solution to my problem, and yours. Cancel your MBNA account. Wait atleast 3 months, preferably six, and the re-apply to Virgin. They will then consider you a new customer.
In the mean time apply for another card - not associated with MBNA. The new Halifax One card for instance, gives decent credit limits and 0% over 9 months.anger, denial, acceptance0 -
MBNA are the owners, in reality, of the Virgin Credit Card. Virgin just provide the brand image for this particular card and some of the marketing. It is MBNA who lends you the money. Consequently, if they already lend you money on an MBNA card then they may not lend you an another. There is a list of credit card suppliers and the different brands here .... http://www.stoozing.com/cards.htm
The real card issuer is on the left and the card brands are on the right.

I had exactly the same problem, I had a mbna card through Abbey with a £300 limit, there was no outstanding balance on the card but virgin said they could not offer their card because of this.
I cancelled the Abbey card theb reapplied 3 weeks later, Virgin then gave me the 0% card with no problems, you may want to cancel your existing mbna card then maybe reapply in 3 weeks, it worked for me.0 -
You should note that as previous money savers have pointed out, MBNA provide the credit for loads of cards. And the problem isn't just the subject of this thread, but you also can't pay off one MBNA card with another. So if you are transferring balances around, you can't do it between, say, Abbey, MBNA, Virgin, Manchester United and god knows who else.
As a stoozer I am well chuffed that I have just become "MBNA free"! Which means that in a few months I can start hitting them again.0 -
Hi,
I had the same problem - existing MBNA card leading to rejection by Virgin.
I'd just like to share the information that I have just received - after a telephone call with the nice people at Virgin I was advised that you may submit a new application as soon as the MBNA card has been cancelled (the original application cannot be resurrected for some reason). I suppose the only downside of this is that you get another search on file at the CRAs.«««¤ Richie ¤»»»0 -

Ditto, rejected for Virgin card due to being existing MBNA customer.
Also, I requested credit limit increase of MBNA and they took a loan I have with them into account and said no.0 -
1st I wish i had read this Thread 8 days ago as still awaiting Virgin credit Card, girl was very enthusastic who took my details, but as the days draw long think iam going to be rejected as got a couple of MBNA cards.
