I start mine off in a plastic tub with wet kitchen roll at the bottom, then i put it in a freezer bag. Then after 3 days you should see a root pop through, then i plant them in toilet roll tubes, it also helps you see what seeds are coming up and which are duds

PAMPAS GRASS: Carefully comb out or cut the old foliage from pampas grass. Its late-summer and autumn plumes could have grown to around 3m (10ft), but take care - the leaves have very sharp edges.

Can I add to this please? Ta :D

We cut ours right back last week and we found a hedgehog hibernating in one of them. I have no idea how he managed to squeeze in. We left his little area untouched so he's safe.

So look out for the hedgehogs :D

  • I have grown my own garlic in the last couple of years and in February they need feeding with potasium. so my main Feb job, apart from the sowings i do, is to spread wood ash around the garlic and onions.

My lawn is awful its very yellow someone told me thats because the ground is too wet. Its only small lawn on a slight slope.

I just made some holes in the law with a fork. When it states growing I am going to patch some bits up with turf and also put some feed on

As I had a day off work today just had to spend time in my garden doing something as the weather is so nice:j

Decided it was time to do some fence maintenance.
DH brought new fence tops and caps and I started with the very boring job of painting the fence panels.

Wanted to get this done befoe too much was growing.

All fence tops on and half the garden panels painted...looks very good even if I do say so myself:D

Makes the garden look better straight away.
Will be finishing it off tomorrow.

    Happy gardening everyone

i've just mown the front lawn for the first time this year. I never do an excellent job but it looks much better and now there's the first load of mowings in the compost bin for the year.
My onions are doing well in their cold frame and in the green house i have lots of cabbage seedlings, leek and onion seedlings and even some of the garlic has sprouted.
Hope everyone else is enjoying the day, i've got a bit of a mud bath going on in the 'grass' infront of the animal hutches. Need to find away to stop it and get the grass going again but there's going to be regular trampling over it. Was thinking of some of that black rubber matting that grass can grow through but i'm not sure where to get some from and i have a fear it's going to be very expensive.
  • I've had a little tidy today, we do have a gardener who does weeding and takes care of grass. So no major stuff to do just learing paths etc. Put toms and leek seeds in a tray on kitchen window ledge. Want to do peas this year, when can hey be done?
