MFI mis-selling furniture protection insurance?

My other half bought a lovely new kitchen from MFI recently and got a super deal.
I later noticed on the bill that there was a £190 premium for their furniture protection insurance. When I told my partner to query this, he toddled off and was told that it was part of the discount he got, ie he only got the discount because he bought the insurance.
Given that this insurance is only really a no-excess duplicate of home contents insurance, it is totally unnecessary, not to say totally mis-sold as it wasn't even mentioned (our word against theirs, of course).
So, is this legal? How can I go back there and get them to give back this £190 without increasing the cost of the kitchen?
Hope someone knows...

Hi we had kind of the same thing a few years back with MFI. I dont know the answer to your query about it being legal but once we complained they changed thier mind. Read on if you think it may help?
MFI had added on an extended warranty on all the electrical items without asking if we wanted it. When we queried this they tried to say that we would not been given the discount we got without adding the cost of the warranty on as the discount only kicked in with purchses over a certain amount. I called them first to complain and got nowhere then I visited the shop and insisted on speaking to the manager. My complaint was that they had not given us a detailed break down of the costs and we were not aware they were selling us insurance that we did not need. I also pointed out to him that he could have lost the sale if the discount had not been given (about £3k) would they really have not given us the discount in this case - he agreed that they should not have added the warranty on without telling us and promptly refunded us!, we got our money back, got to keep the discount and he gave us a free tap for the sink for our trouble!
I think you should pay the shop a visit and speak with the manger, I find that being polite and telling them what you want them to do works wonders.0
