    Hi Kimberley.

I don't know if you managed to do a complete scan yet or not. In case you didn't, then the following will get the job done:

Right click the Avast icon near the time, bottom right of screen.
    Left click "Start avast! Antivirus".
It will then go through a check of your memory and Start Up items.
When the console appears left click the top right icon which looks like a square box. When you hover your mouse over it it should say "Local disks"
A box should pop up on the top of the console. Ensure that the box telling it to scan archived files is ticked (left click it if not).
Left click the large, round icon on the left with a right-pointing arrow on it to start the scan.

That should give you a complete scan of your PC. :)

Thanks but there is no Avast icon near the time on my computer

Righty-O Kimberley. Have you installed Avast anti-virus program?

If so, there should be a a grey/blue ball icon with a lower case a in it near your time. If there isn't, is there a blue circular icon with a left-pointing arrowhead on it close to your time? If so, left click it and it should disclose any hidden icons. Is the Avast icon now revealed? If it is, then you can click on it and perform your scan.
If it still isn't there then how do you run your scan? Double click a Desktop Avast icon or run it from Programs on the Start menu?

Which download site are you using?

    This link?; http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe

Even on dial up the 9MB file should take no more than 45 mins to download.

i had to use system restore as i was having problems accessing some sites and logging onto them.
therefore i had to go to a date prior to the avast installation i did.
i am now trying to download avast again.
i am using your link as before, but i do not know if it downloading correctly.
at the start it said it would take 2 hours and 20m.
    i started it at 7p.m.
it has downloaded 14% up to now and it says time remaining 2 hours 12m.
yet you stated it should take 45mins.
although i am on dial-up it still seems a long time.
i actually started it earlier as well about 6pm but after about half an hour it stopped itself , i think the connection was lost.
    any advice?
    Nice to save.
