AVG do a completely free version (no trial period). Find it HERE .
Or try Avast. It's also a free antivirus. Find it HERE .
Remember to uninstall the antivirus you have on your computer before you install a new one. It can cause problems if you don't.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Yep, Avast was the one highlighted in the thread. I'm using it now and it's good.
Best way to go about installing it is to connect to the Internet, download Avast, disconnect from the Net, uninstal AVG, instal Avast, reconnect to the Net.
This way you're never connected without anti-virus protection. It only takes less than a second to become infected.0 -
I have never bought any virus software because it came free with my motherboards.
I don’t intend to buy any virus software ever! You too can get virus software free if you know how.
If you know where to look you can get free virus soft too? Just click on the link and use the free trials until they run out.
I’m just a money saver http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/viruses/wsc/en-us/default.mspxI'm not poor i'm just skint0 -

I have followed boogiemasters link and found EZ antivirus from computer associates with a free 12 month trial.
which one is best????????/Nice to save.0 -
you can get it through download.com:
http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10375520.html?tag=lst-0-1
rather than trawling through Avast's homepage0 -
Avasti is so slow though, I downloaded it about an hour a go and it's still scanning..hopefully it will be finished by 6pm ...0

You're right that Avast takes longer to scan your PC than, say, AVG. I like to think it's because it's doing a more thorough job. It certainly detected more pests on my PC than AVG did.0

It's quite weird, how do i ask it to scan the entire PC? I mean at the moment it's doing a standard scanIt's going to take some getting used to. I wanted it as i keep getting pop up adverts and i want them squished

I prefer using the quick avg.
I let it scan every night and then once or twice a week I use a different online scanner -
e.g.
mcafee
trend
BitDefender
so I figure if one misses something, another will find it0 -
The scanning has just finished and it said was unable to scan files..i don't get it, i know i have bugs on my computer as i keep getting pop up ads, so what now?0
